The dude with the black X3 drove past me today. Man, I swear... the stance looks awesome with spacers. Will call my dealership tomorrow and order them

Hey y'all, finally got the spacers mounted: 12mm up front and 17mm at the back on each side. Please excuse me for not washing the car before taking pictures. Nevertheless, I would say... definitely pretty cool

Any reason you didn't go 20 on the rear? |

I think that you probably won't get much more than 12mm to work in the front though (cause when you steer full lock, the tire is pretty close to the inside of the wheelwell). Keeping that in mind, I didn't want to do so much more in the back, so I figured that 17mm would be fine. I also did not want to do too much, so I chose 17mm. Furthermore, the 20mm are a different system and more expensive (you screw the spacers on the hub, and then the wheel to the spacers; while everything under 20mm is mounted with longer screws.) Hope that helps;-) You should go ahead and try the 20mm and buy 12mm for the front. Please post some pics, when you mount those 20mm. Cheers.

So I just went with 20mm in the rear only, which basically ended up making all 4 corners even, in terms of how much tuck from the fender. I've not measured my X3 yet, to see what it would be like just to go 20 in the rear, or if I should do the fronts too, because if I do the front, I'd do 12's or maybe 10's, if the hub lip allows me. Not larger. You're mistaken that the 20mm spacers require to be bolted on. Mine didn't, Turner Motorsports (well known BMW performance shop) and H&R's don't either: http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-55...0-f13-f25.aspx The 25mm ones and up require to be bolted on: http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-55...3-f25-f30.aspx |

I agree that vehicles look nice with spacers - and also - in theory - it will add to cornering capability. With my 20" and lowered vehicle I don`t need better cornering.
But grip? I take it is meant to be longitudinal grip=acceleration. I can see no reason for improving grip with wider stance!? |

I suppose that wider stance won't give more longitudinal grip on an 4wd. However it probably would give a rwd car better traction, as the rear won't break out as much.

hey folks just a quick observation, the spacers do make the truck look fantastic but do you get a lot more debris kicked up on the paint from the tires?

Probably yes, but since I'm an asphalt-cowboy, debris aren't too much of an issue for me. Actually my previous car had a much wider stance.... Never noticed any damage to the paint on that car.

And if you're that worried, you could put some clear paint protection film around there. But as you say, I don't think unless you're flush with the fender or outside of it, you'll notice much difference.

So I've measured the space from the outer part of the tire (I've got 19's) to the edge of the fender, i.e. how far they're tucked in, and this is what I came up with:
FRONT: 17 mm REAR: 25 mm So with 20 mm spacers in the rear, and 12 mm up front, it will reduce the tuck to an even 5 mm front and rear. I'll be ordering my set in the next few weeks! |

You will need longer bolts for spacers under 20mm. Spacers over 20mm use a different system: the spacer is bolted to the lug, and the wheel onto the spacer (instead of lug)
