Anybody Used a Non OEM Spark Plug?
At the dealer yesterday to pickup a couple of items and inquired about plugs. Twenty dollars a pop! Lately, I've been replacing OEM parts with non OEM that have better performance and pricing; i.e. Akebono brake pads, Zimmer rotors, future Bilstein shocks. I believe a lot of Bimmers use NGK plugs, so I checked their website but nothing comes up on plugs for 28i. Bosch shows two different plugs for the 28i. Checked with ECS Tuning and they show BMW OEM, NGK and Bosch.
Has anyone tried the non OEM Plugs? If so, experience. |

searching the web, I found a set of OEM NGK's for my 35i @ ~$12 a piece. I bought them several months back. I will be replacing them @ the 60,000 mile mark in a few weeks.
even at $20 ea. 6 plugs over 4 years costs you $30 per year. |

When I changed mine, they gave me the part for a 6cyl non turbo x3. If you have one then this picture has the part number on it. The next picture shows the difference between (6cyl )non turbo and turbo( used). The part number to cross reference is the "Pxxxx" #.

According to the BMW service manager at a dealer, both NGK and Bosch are OEM depending on which supplier can provide during a production cycle. They will install either brand to ensure the assembly cycle is not stopped. Both brands meet BMW's OEM specifications.

used aftermarket NGK (ie it didn't specifically say BMW on the box) on my dad's N52. No issues. Runs great.
Also using aftermarket coil packs - Beru if i remember correctly. |

Use S55 NGK spark plugs if you plan to tune.
