Smartphone Integration
Trying to debate if I need to add this.... The only thing I want is an aux port so that I can plug in my iPhone or iPod and listen to music through my stereo system.
Does the x3 come with that standard on all models? Or do I need to add the smartphone integration to have that ability? |

good question..as i just ordered mine yesterday. it says it comes standard w/ ipod integration - which should mean you can access your ipod through the screen... So i opted out of smartphone. let me know if you end up either confirming or denying this.

The Smartphone Integration (6NF) is going away with the release of "BMW Apps" - option 6NR being produced on X vehicles beginning 4/2011. It will become part of the 6NR solution, allowing several features some of which require use of an optional snap in adapter which will fit into the integrated 6NF.
To simply be able to play music from the ipod/phone using the BMW's control screen, that does not require SP Integration or 6NR. Ordering 6NR however will also then allow accessing the iPhone music but insteadusing the iPhone's controls (iPod Out) on the BMW Nav screen. This would however require having the phone in the Media adapter, the also optional cradle needed for some of 6NR's advanced capabilities.

on my 35i I didn't order Technology package (or Nav) but in the armrest there is an iphone cable - it has two cables that merge into the one iphone connector - one is for Aux and one is the USB. So on the iDrive i can see my playlists and select songs with the iDrive dial

instead you can also choose to connect your iphone using bluetooth function which is standard in 28i as well and see your playlist and songs in nav screen and as well operate using idrive controller. my sales rep configured my iphone in my test drive car using this option and it was awesome, surprising thing is, we stopped the car went in to meet him and he told we will drive to the lot to see other colors, it automatically detected my ophone this time and started playing the song from where i stopped the car last time.
