Grounding Wire? Hatch question..

Hi,

I noticed a wire broken off. Its located in the rear hatch area upper left. It appears to be a grounding wire. Does anyone know if this is a grounding wire. Mine seems to have rusted free and broke. Anyone else experience this?

I had the same issue. Depending on who you talk to, it is either a grounding wire or an earth strap - same thing, different words. I had mine replaced under warranty. If you replace it yourself it's a $25-$30 part in the US, depending on where you buy it, or maybe $30 - $35 in Canada.

The part number is 51247273679.

Common problem.

Anyone had it fixed and it happened again - as it seems a weak point on the F25?

Thanks everyone! I will take it in and see if they will cover it under warranty.

Question X3 earth strap hinge tailgate

I replaced the tailgate lifts and noticed the subject earth strap was broken, similar to the photo posted by the original person with the question. I got the new part from ECS Tuning and both ends have flat connectors. It seems to me this is more robust as far as breakage, but then the metal skin on the top strap connector touches the tailgate at more than the hex connection. I see no way to connect it except as shown in the photo I attached and find it hard to understand why the part wouldn’t come with one connector at 90 degrees if that was the design intent. I can’t find an installation video or guide on the web.
