2011 reliability and cost of ownership

New to forum, I'm looking at a 2011, with 44K miles. Records show all service done by dealer. Car is very clean. Are the X3's reliable? Anyone think this is a good value? My fear is the cost of ownership.

is it a 28i or 35i? what other options?

Low miles is a good sign, but still age is a factor for some parts like seals.

My 2011 35i is running strong at over 100k miles.

Looks a little high, I think at most its worth $14k. But I personally would wait for one with more options, unless this is going to be an extra car/work car/teen's car/etc. jmho

What vehicles has OP owned previously? BMWs are generally more expensive to maintain than the typical Honda or Toyota.

Based on KBB, the list price of this 2011 X3 appears reasonable. The Carfax for the vehicle OP identified reports just under 48K miles. Mileage is low for a 7 year old car. The N52 engine is generally fairly reliable. Front brake rotor was replaced at 26K miles based on Carfax, but another brake service may be due in the next couple of years. Check wear items including brakes, tires and suspension and look for oil leaks around gaskets.

I have purchased two X3s from BMW of Silver Spring and my service experience there has been positive.

The 2.8 with the N52 is a keeper. Cut-off production date was sometime in April 2012, when they changed the 6 cyl engine with the turbo 4 banger.
Find a nice optioned 2.8 with the N52 vintage and call it a day. You won't be sorry. If not sure what engine the car has (if not around it to check under the hood), just check the vin and it will tell, including options.

Sound advice so far. I went out of my way to locate a 2011 28i because of the na 6 cylinder engine. This engine is incredibly smooth, very reliable and does a great job moving the X3. Just don't drive a 35i first. it'll make you want the extra power.

I have an X3 2011 35i. At 65,000km the water pump failed. At 74,000km the rear left brake light also failed. I got this car from my local bmw dealer at 35,000km. I guess it’s just luck of the draw when you buy a used car.

Actually yea. kind of regret getting the X3. I was trying to say I’ve been unlucky with mine. In my opinion I think they’re just prone to getting problems. Too bad mine was out of warranty when I had to get the water pump replaced (I don’t drive much/yr) I suggest getting the extended warranty.
