X3 35i purchase advice
Hi all, new here and looking for advice on a potential purchase. I am looking at early second generation X3's and wondering what the thoughts are on a 2011 X3 35I with 100K miles? I previously owned an e36 from 100K to 160K and it was rock solid. Haven't owned a modern era BMW and wondering if it is going to be a money pit or a solid car. Any help/thoughts are appreciated!
What are the common pit falls? Major or minor issues? Thanks in advance. |

The f25 is an SAV and not sure you need the additional oomph in the city or highway. It's not a racing car. BTW I purchased the f25 some 300km away from where I live and driving home I punched it. It has very decent pull and goes really good. Kept up with an M3 and an AMG for a while without breaking a sweat. They were accelerating quicker, but the f25 was able to keep the pace. I'm sure they could have shaken me off if they wanted to. Maintenance and fuel consumption are easier on the wallet than the N55 counterpart. But by saying this, the N55 might be more fun to drive than the N52. In any case, find a vehicle that has the full CIC (with nav package professional/combox). There are models that don't have that (smaller screen). You want bluetooth as well. Nevada leather is a plus. Heated sport steering wheel, comfort access, adaptive headlights. SOund system - at least professional DSP. Sport package if you can find (some nice exterior highlights) At that point you won't have many mods to do, and keeps your cost of ownership down

If it's well maintained, I don't see an issue. I have a 2015 msport 35i and love it! I'm only at 30k miles, but have had no issues. I would recommend the following options for anyone looking for an f25 x3- 35i, msport, Adaptive LED light package, premium package, and HK audio. You will love it!

Hey now, I've taken mine to the autocross plenty of times. With my mild tune I'm doing 0-60 in 5 seconds flat with my 35i. Then again i'm 23 and I sold my E90 M sport for this so I've gotta keep the fun alive.

That is quite a bit of mileage. I don't know if it is a forum rule (I've only been hear a day) but no one mentioned price. It would have to be pretty low to take on that amount of miles.

Something in the hi 20s to low 30 just coming off a lease seems like a very good 2014 option. Expect to pay mid to high 20s depending on condition and options.

Low 30s will get you a 2015 LCI 35i with every option checked. I just bought mine this summer with 38k miles for 33k.

Yes, that is correct. I cited a range of high 20s to low 30s, with low 30s being on the high end for a 2014. I agree it's better to go for the later model for the same cost if the mileage is comparable. There isn't much difference in in features of form factor between the two model years but the resale value will be better with the later model, if all other things are equal.

For a 2011 X3 35i with 100k miles, I would expect it to be around $15k, slightly more for fully loaded (M-sport package, cold weather package, technology package, lighting package). Of course, the more you know about the maintenance history, the better and a clean carfax goes without saying.
I have a 2011 X3 35i that is fast approaching 100k. What I have had to deal with lately: - water pump and thermostat replacement (pre-emptive, recommended at 60k, no record of it done before) - Oil filter housing gasket: manifests as very slow leak, if not caught in time it will get on the serpentine belt and cause it to self distruct - LED Tail light failure: search this forum on how to repair instead of replacing whole tail light - Rear brakes supposedly wear out quickly, I havent seen that in ~25k miles - Plus the usual maintenance items for 100K: plugs, coils, O2 sensors, etc |

Interesting, if I can get close to that amount for my 2014 three years from now with similar or less mileage I will be very pleased.
