Chrome Exhaust Trim 20D UK

Unbelievably, the parts department at my dealer reckons that the chrome exhaust finisher does not exist in the UK for the 20D SE! This in spite of me emailing them the relevant web page from the online accessories brochure.

Now I know that a fair few of you have this part fitted and wondered whether any of you had similar trouble?

Also very helpful if one of you could check their invoice and post the part number if you still have it to hand.

Many thanks.

What a lazy parts monkey boy!

Give realoem a try for any future parts requirements so that you can give the spares monkey all the info they need

Ordered mine at point of order at dealer's, but self fit. It took about 20 seconds with a rubber mallet. Was not going to pay £100 for fitting.

Thanks, Bimmer. RealOEM was going to be my next stop, although I did check yesterday before I emailed the dealer. Re-checked and the part number matches that given on Ninoo's invoice. Now have print out to take in to the dealer!

What a bunch!

I was originally told it was only for sports version and had to tell them to stop fretting and just sell me the freaking thing!

They must employ some real deadbeats in spares at bmw dealers (our business is mainly spares and as this is our core business and provides far superior margins to capital sales we ensure our spares team are well informed and care about sales no matter the value - we put the oems to shame on service levels)

I'm sure it can be found somewhere, but I gave up after a minute.

Does anybody perhaps have a pic of this accessory?

It can certainly be found on the BMW UK website. You can also download a digital brocure from there which shows the part. But here is a pic of it anyway:

thx!

That tip looks more like stainless steel than chrome. Not really a big difference to the original is it? The version for the 6 cylinder looks much better (IMHO)

That picture in the accessories brochure doesn't show the chrome tip.

There are plenty on here somewhere just I can't link through as I am on
My iPhone.

If you look under the space grey forum mine is on there.

I still can't believe this isn't standard as it makes the car look significantly better and more premium.

Sorry! Photo credits noted and corrected. The royalty check is in the mail.
Are naked X3s allowed to be displayed on UK streets? Sounds naughty.

Exhaust pipe fixations ... wonder what Dr Freud would make of that

I bought chrome tips for my last car and they looked great for the first few months but soon became stained and tarnished even though I cleaned them (even with special stuff).

Are these truly stainless? Do they clean back up to their original condition?

7500 miles and no tarnishing, go for bmw part and no worries

Had bmw chrome trim on previous E60 and this was almost perfect after 60000 miles and 4 years

Don't know about the 20d version, but the ones BMW puts on the 35i are made of non-ferrous stainless steel. I wipe mine once a week with a damp paper towel and polish them with Semichrome every (2) months, or so, and they look as good as new.

Tempting ... so long as it doesn't become a "rusty bullet hole"

These things are about £40. Not even half a tank of diesel.

Everyone get one. Give it a polish about one a month to keep the black exhaust soot at bay.

If in 18 months it looks a bit tarnished get a new one. That's my plan if it happens.
