What add ons to get from dealer and finance officer when buying X3?

So I see that some people have recommended getting the tire and rim insurance? I turned down the extended warranty for two years at $2700 and the extended maintenance at $2000.

Thoughts?

I got zero. I had the tire warranty on my 135i. Over 2.5 years, never got my money's worth.

On a car like this with such thick tires.. unless you live in a pot hole filled world, for $1400 or whatever the price is in your area, it doesn't seem worth it at all. I'd rather have 2 plane tickets to jamaica.

I agree. We turned down every optional insurance. Maybe would have considered the tire protection if we had gone with the optional 19" tires. We have all kinds of bad pot holes and frost heaves in our area and never really had an issue. knock on wood!

You can always get an extended warranty at a later date too. The benifit of hitting you at closing time with all these extras is they can make it sould like you are only looking at $25 more a month which doesn't sound like a lot but certainly adds up over time.

If anything would be the tire/rim insurance provided you can negotiate a good price. I paid $750 UDS, seemed like a safe bet.

As someone already indicated you can always get extended warranty at a later date, at least BMW offers 4 years or 50,000 miles so you have time.

Consider flats with the insurance. Thats what got me after niot having it and replacing three tires. Lots of house and freeway construction in the area seemed to shed a lot of nails and screws.

Dealer Add-ons

I realize I am a quite late to this thread, but only got my 35i at end of December 2011. I turned down all the options. A few weeks later I picked up a tack in one of the Pirelli P7s. I showed the dealer how to submit a claim for reimbursement to Pirelli. The Pirelli Run Flat warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship and road hazards. No charge at all if in the first year and tread is worn 2/32 or less. The dealer did not tell me about this warranty when they tried to sell me the tire and wheel insurance for $1350. The wheels are still at "risk," but the tire warranty reduces the overall exposure to the point where the tire and wheel insurance was not worth it to me.

I turned down all of the "up-sell" stuff too.

I figure if I get a puncture I'll just pull the tires and go to a non-RFT and sell the remaining good tires.
