I am driving over to the dealer later this afternoon for an unannounced visit. If I don't get any sense, I recon I will just cancel, get the deposit and either buy a year old X5 or just totally go mad and pop into Tesla and go totally crazy.. (* this is my impulsive 5 yr old inner kid throwing his toys about)

If I had the money I'd take the year old X5 over a new X3.

I went to look at a 6 month old x4 today, had a discussion and awaiting some info Monday. But at the same place they mentioned a possibility of getting me an x3 March slot they have if I order this week, that gets me a car the same time as the other dealer, but I still have doubts I'm getting the full story on why my car is really late.

My order for a 35D with lots of toys went in 28/11 and no start of build yet. Dealer says April but we'll see. Waiting more than a little frustrating though there are a surprising number of 35D's in showrooms if you ring and ask but they are all the wrong spec or have pale leather which I really don't like.

That would be impressive ... Only 5 months !

Unless a cancelled order slot

I think realistic lead times at the moment are about 9/10 months

I think someone else posted that cars ordered early December were looking at wk 38 which would be end of Sept

Think your estimate is a bit more reaalistic. Week end before Christmas my dealer was saying week 34 for an order placed now. May be some variation depending on a dealers available slots. Would be surprised if an order placed now was delivered April unless you strick lucky with the dealer having a cancellation, but well done if that is the case.

Week 38 is what I was quoted Saturday when following up on some options. But I was also offered a car as a new order for a week 11 build, so I may cancel my order placed last July (due to my delivery date slipping from jan to April now) and order from the local dealer, the slot I was offered was one they had allocated for a demo car.

I thought i'd entertain you guys a bit more - After promises that the sales guy would talk to BMW, push, try , yada yada .. and get back to me Friday - well , he didn't.

I then decided to drop in on him unannounced today. He was not in but after swiping aside the 2 'sales managers' who came out to deal with the irate customer, we got the business manager. Explained to him the saga surrounding the missing build slot etc.

Among the various 'possibilities' that could have delayed my order, the gem was :'There could have been component supply error/problem' which may have delayed the build - at which point I had to explain to him that if that's the case, the USA/CA residents on here who order a car and gets it delivered in 6 weeks would surely ALSO be affected.

Long and short of it is that his MD will look at the case, there's no VIN/Chasis number yet but the current status is build week 11 and delivery mid April.

A bit of a further complication is that we sold our car to a friend based on the timeline of delivery end Feb - so I basically told them that i have a problem - I don't have a car and it's theirs to fix.

In the meanwhile I touched base myself with BMW UK (a wonderful thing public tweets are) and if I don't get decent answers tomorrow, i'll go down that route.

As some of you said - it's massively off-putting that your relationship with BWM start going sour even before they deliver the car - what are they like once you have the car ?

Thank

One of the dealers I spoke to yesterday said that cars ordered with them in July were all delivered December or January as they had originally quoted.

The build slot isn't even option or model specific.

Right I have a quote today for delivery at the end of April if I order this week, it's the same build week as I had from the other dealer, but the deal has lower monthly payments and Has a few things such as gap and tyre insurance etc. get a much better feeling about the dealership and it's more local.

No brainer then. Have they absolutely guaranteed the build week? Why didn't you use them for the original order?

Any response? Although I'm told my delivery is imminent (this month some time) I'd still be intrigued to know what the official line is.

My local dealer couldn't get within £2k of the discount I was offered (this dealer is same group so I never tried them) it's a demo slot they have that they will give me so it's already a build slot in week 12.

The attitude of the original dealer is poor to say the least, I'll be honest I think the deal I got they have realised was a mistake and they have bumped me down the queue in the hope I want to cancel.

I really hope it works for you .. Sounds like your local dealer is the way to go especially if the original dealer will let you walk with your deposit

Your theory is an interesting and plausible one

Well good luck there Northandy !!

My little situational update:

Since seeing the business manager on Saturday and deeply concerned .. will investigate.. sits in the same office as the MD of the dealership.. yada yada, (this in-between dropping the thinly veiled threat that "all our calls are recorded and I don't believe *insert salesman's name here * said that. - so calling me a liar ..

He then dutifully called my wife on Monday and got aggressive over the phone stating the fact that "T&C states that the dealership isn't liable for delays" and that's IT. She got upset and told him that i'd ring him back.

About 20 min later she got a call from the salesman all apologetic and couldn't be nicer - but not really any answers or options.

So i took the opportunity to email BMW UK - saying I'd like to hear from them officially how it happens that a car I ordered 1st week in July is slipping to April when most other people got their delivery December.

Lets see what happens - to be honest, I don't hold out much hope for BMW UK sorting out their dealer - but then as I said in the letter to BMW - i'd actively go out of my way on social media, friends etc to make sure that everyone knows exactly what to expect.

Good lord, I never had this sh*t buying a Hyundai !

Anyways, thanks for listening to my rant !

Who is the dealership?

Ask BMW head office to send you a survey email. This will concentrate the mind of the dealership MD when you send back the reply.

I can't work out how our friends in the USA can get a new LCI X3 in 6 to 8 weeks, and Europe/UK it takes 6 to 8 months. Even with shipping times??
Maybe the shoe will be on the other foot when Jaguar start building their SUV in the UK- but then again probably not! + ironic

I believe it's because the US buyers would walk away if they had the delays we have in Europe. That's means we are suffering due their impatience (they queue jump) or we're mug enough to put up with it, depending on your point of view.
