I am attempting to revive this thread. Just wondering what those of you who don't DD your M cars (or other bimmers) are daily driving. Here's mine (which I made a separate thread about last week). 2010 Mazda3 S Sport. Cheap, fun, good on gas. I decided I was not going to put my M3 though the paces of yet another winter here in the northeast. I'm bored and just waiting for track season to begin.

My 135.

I must admit I find it odd that people are shelling out a fortune on buying an M car and then NOT driving it.....

Fair enough, a 25-30 year old M car or much older classic I can understand, but a new or almost new car

I like to keep my M3 in the garage where it's warm and safe and I can rub it with a diaper.

Seriously, I have owned five BMWs and after a few years each of them got chewed up by the salt, sand and other garbage they dump all over the roads here in the winter. I now have the means to buy a third car so I am trying that for now. Plus all of that salt and salt brine is very corrosive and harmful, especially to the suspension parts.

you've got me worried man, I live in CT, have been for 6 years.

I've owned and driven a Mitsu Evo VIII and Acura TSX while living here, and neither of them were babied during the winters here.

Are Bimmer's particularly susceptible to rust?

I only ask because I also have a set of the F30 rust-seat-frame syndrome, and that's with 5500 miles on the clock.

If I would've known these cars were such wimps, I would've kept the TSX and just bought a used M3 for driving/garaging....

I can understand that, but imo if you're only driving your M in nice weather, you're ready to move up to a dedicated sports car. The whole idea behind the M cars is they offer the perfect compromise for daily driving and sportiness. If you're running two cars, why compromise?

^Not serious. Would be cool though for a daily. The thread got me thinking about what would be a economical and unique daily driver and the isseta came to mind. My 135 is my daily.

Z4 35i daily/only.

Only bummer is my commute is just 3 hilly miles... which isn't enough to get the oil/turbos warmed up, or achieve higher than 17 mpg.
I can't complain about the rest of the commute!

Maybe when it gets warmer out I'll switch to the bicycle.

My 135 is my daily. My GTO is my nice weekend car and puts down 503 RWHP on pump gas. The truck can be used for daily when I get tired of driving the BMW but the MPG on it is terrible. The WRX is my girls daily. The Bug is my restoration project/classic car that is almost done, finally! ha
