I'm quite surprised that the X1 curved display and dashboard setup looks a lot more pleasing to the eyes compared to the rest of the lineup.

The whole centre console/arm rest looks cheap and plasticky in person to me.

Has BMW outsourced interior design and materials to Kia ? To be fare, a budget version of Kia

I had an X1 for a loaner recently and I thought the display was just ok, a bit on the small side and the right side of the steering wheel blocked some of the menu buttons on the center.

Any part of that glorified cell phone interface being blocked just adds to the misery of not having actual buttons.

I saw today that they bumped me up to 5/17 (originally had the same date as you).

It doesn't even have a park button! You just shut the car off. It did have last track/next track buttons where the iDrive wheel would be. I wish mine had that instead of all that dead space!

So how the hell do you put it in park with the engine running?

That the beauty, you don't! I don't think that was thought all the way through. My wife's Passport has a pushbutton gear selector, but at least Honda thought to put a P button in there.

I don't know about the 2025 X3, but my 2024 M440 with ID8 has a park button on the center console. Although fewer buttons feel innately like a bad idea, I prefer it to my X3 ID7. The few minor annoyances in ID8 have been corrected in ID8.5.

Thanks for the heads-up! What did you think of the experience? Also, torn between the recommended Hotel Hartness and Grand Bohemian. Any recommendations?

Placed order for x3 m40i on 4/29/24 and got fast tracked using existing allocation. Fast forward to today - the car is at status 182 (carrier assignment) with PCD on 6/5.

OP, the cars are still being built for new orders - your salesman was not correct.

Just placed an order with a local(ish) dealer for a G01 M40i so fingers crossed it all goes ok now. Just now doing the usual debate with myself about options ticked.
I haven't bothered with wireless charging (even the dealer said not to bother) or the reclining rear seats as mainly I didn't want comfort access. Any opinions one way or the other?
Without comfort access do you have the kick to open option? Again, not really fussed, but wondering if that only comes with the Comfort Pack?

Is reclining rear seats an option unique to the UK? I just ordered a couple weeks ago and don't see that on the website as an option either (I'm in US). Seems like Comfort Access is listed as standard here.

No kick to open without the Comfort pack, and several other useful things omitted from the car (See below).

Defo would not be without it.

I've specced Extended Storage and the Heated Steering Wheel, but to get the Reclining Rear Seats, you need to spec Comfort Access too. Can you disable the Comfort Access in the iDrive?

My M40 went into production yesterday (5/17), sitting in QC 155 still today. Assuming the X3 line is closed until Monday at this point based on some schedules I've seen?

I'm not 100% about disabling comfort access from iDrive, but if not, it may be possible to code it off. You can disable the trunk kick to open and various aspects of comfort door locking and unlocking from the iDrive menu.

I set mine to lock the car when I move away, and it issues a blip sound, so I know it's done it.

The later remote disables itself after a few minutes of being stationary, so a relay theft from a key on the hall table is unlikely.

my dealer told me a few days ago that they have 2 or so M40i allocations left BUT they are both South African? I was a bit confused as I thought we didn't even get SA M40is... but perhaps the US M40i build slots are wining down?

I've looked at the Lexus UX300h, the Toyota Prius, Toyota Crowns interior layout and they are head and shoulder above the single curved display we now see on BMWs, Hyundais, and other Chinese cars in terms of aesthetics and usability. With physical buttons, it takes a second or two to touch a button and move through various settings.

I'm not even against touch screens but at least embed them properly so they look beautiful and not afterthoughts. Also make voice command robust enough to handle music, HVAC and drive modes (probably the three most used functions while the car is in motion) if they will all be embedded in touch screens.

Heck, the display on top of the dash, it actually makes sense because it keeps navigation or the infotainment system along the line of sight when paying attention to what's on the road.

That 2026 Euro NCAP requiring stalks, hazard light button, will not be enough.
I am honestly very surprised that half of these vehicles made it into production and there hasn't been laws to rectify this... there is no excusable situation where a touchscreen is faster to operate than physical buttons... voice activation at least half the time is a load of horsesh**. This is a significant safety AND distraction issue... then they just add more and more screens and remove all buttons...

I think functions that are used every day while driving should always have a physical button namely-

Climate Controls - temp, sync, fan, ac on / off, auto on / off
Radio buttons - mute / skip tracks, volume and presets
Heating buttons for seat / steering wheel

At least 16 buttons should be left for those type of quick access actions. In fact, it should be legally written into FDOT / NHTSA requirements. Oh and capacitive touch buttons can also go to the way off the dodo.

Garage List
At least leave the programmable buttons, so they can still be customised to whatever “shortcut” you want.
