Just received my Xdrive35i !!! Break-in Process?
Just received my new ride - BEAUTIFUL !
2.3 Miles on the clock. Now... whats best way to break-in the engine nicely for first 600 miles? I know not too load or break hard, also not to idle for too long at a time... Any other advice? Thanks |

The manual recommends not to rev above 4000rpm, not to drive above 100 mph, no long periods at one constant speed (limit use of cruse control) and no full throttle starts for the first 1200 miles or 2000 km. You should see your fuel consumption improve slightly over the first few tankfuls.
Check your tire pressures for the correct values (dealers here in the US rarely do this correctly) If you have the standard 18 inch wheels running the fronts at 35 psi and the rears at 37 psi (COLD) seems to work well and you may prefer the handling to running the factory recommended pressures of 32F/35R. Have fun, but use some restraint until it's broken in. |

Yes, you should follow the instructions in the owner's manual. However, there seems to be a discrepancy between what my owner's manual says and what Lotus7's says.
I took delivery of my 35i last Friday. Page 120 covers the break-in period, and it says to keep revs below 4500 RPM (rather than 4000). Also, there is no mention in my manual regarding the need to avoid driving extended periods at a constant speed. While other cars I have purchased have included such a warning, I see nothing about that in the X3's owner's manual. I thouight there might be a discrepancy between the printed manual, the electronic one in the car, and the PDF version available from BMW's web site. However, all three were consistent regarding break-in advice. |

Just another recommendation we received from the PCD when we picked it up-
don't get over 3500 rpms nor use the cruise control for the first 1500 miles. This was from the guy that went over the vehicle with us... |
