UK Orders

Thought I'd start a thread for tracking UK orders (or trying to!). My case is as follows so far

24 Oct 2010 - ordered
25 Nov 2010 - given production week 3
7 Dec 2010 - changed to production week 2
7 Jan 2011 - told no more amendments could be made as order has been accepted but car not yet "physical". Given VIN and production number
10 Jan 2011 - estimate for start of production
14 Jan 2011 - departed plant status on BMW dealer's system
15 Jan 2011 - given production status of "departed plant" as at 14 Jan, delivery still expected to be early Feb but no confirmed delivery date
24 Jan 2011 - told car still at status "departed plant"
24 Jan 2011 - WW status: booked
26 Jan 2011 - checked Wallenius Wilhelmsen Track and Trace using VIN and found car
26 Jan 2011 - WW status: received at terminal
27 Jan 2011 - WW status: loaded on vessel
27 Jan 2011 - departed Charleston (not confirmed but ETD on WW)
11 Feb 2011 - dealer called to say car now in the UK (it's in Gothenburg according to WW!)
11 Feb 2011 - WW status: Liner Release, Customs Release
14 Feb 2011 - Elektra sailed into Southampton on schedule
15 Feb 2011 - WW status: Discharged
18 Feb 2011 - Call from dealer to arrange delivery for next week.
19 Feb 2011 - Available for collection
22 Feb 2011 - Picked up - here she is photos

Total time from day order placed to delivery: 121 days (4 months).
Time from start of production to delivery: 43 days (6 weeks)
Time from "departed plant" status to first positive search on WW Track and Trace: 12 days

It is isn't possible to track your X3 online. Even if you register on bmwusa.com and enter your VIN or your production number, neither are recognised. The same applies to the production videos unfortunately.

Your only option is to keep calling the dealer and asking him to check on his system but when that is stuck on departed plant for 11 days, you aren't left with much.

BMW use Wallenius Wilhelmsen to ship the X3s from Charleston to Southampton and their schedule is here:

http://schedule.2wglobal.com/AppSche...countryList.do

Once your X3 is on a ship you can then use this link

http://www.2wglobal.com/www/wep/index.jsp

Click Track and Trace and then enter your full VIN (17 characters) as Cargo ID. When it is found, you'll see Voyage Details and Status Details, like below.

When you know which ship it's on and if you really want to you can also trace its exact location using instructions here

http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/07/14/ho...d-to-delivery/

The VIN tracking is a bit hit and miss and there are two other forum members whose X3s were on the same boat (ELEKTRA) who were both unable to track using the VIN. If you can't find it on WW 4 weeks after it went into production, you probably won't be able to track it.

If anyone else has any more to add or thinks any of this is wrong, please update!

Someone was recently told 6 months for new UK orders I'm afraid but hopefully that will prove conservative. Congratulations though! It has had lots of good reviews and feedback so far as I'm sure you know, so it should be well worth the wait

Hi. Ordered mine around the same time. Build week 3. Been told delivery around 10th March. Not checked recently. Was going to call again yesterday but worried the dealer would think I was stalking him ).

I know exactly how you feel! I think just randomly turning up and having a chat gets the best results! I wish they could just send a weekly email even if it's just to say they have checked the status for you and there is no update. I rarely get any replies to my emails and then have to play phone tennis for days before getting an "update" that is "no change in status".

10 March seems to fit. Please post here if you get any updates, or manage to find your X3 on a ship!

Hi guys, first post here.

Just orded my loaded xDrive20d here in Sweden and got an estimated build date week 33 and delivery date week 39. So we're talking production middle of august and end of september / early october before taking delivery. I think I can get a hold of a Ferrari 458 quicker if I tried...

They bumped up the production week from week 26 about 1,5 - 2 weeks ago and it looks like slots for week 33 are running out fast...

So even though it may not relate to the UK, I'm guessing you guys would be in a similar boat (no pun) if you were to order today.

I think the thought of an 8 month wait would destroy this market for casual buyers. As they already have empty showrooms, surely BMW will increase shifts or switch an X5 or X6 production line to X3? 8 months is just too long, especially for those with leases or other fixed timelines.

They can turn around a US order for a 28 or 35 petrol in a month so I assume it's a shortage of diesel engines or not enough capacity to make the diesels. If it's capacity, surely they can just delay some of the 28s and 35s, most of the assembly line must be the same

The US is the biggest single market and assume they are giving them preference

Based on my current ETA it will be 20 weeks from order also

Ordered 10th November, build week 6, Currently due 11th April

Maybe but 1 month vs 6+ months still seems a big imbalance and as X3BuyerScotland points out, it's already at the stage where some people will be put off altogether.

Agree that the wait is long however, what I think would make it more bearable would be if they introduced a order tracking system similar to that of the USA.

I think 6 months is in line with the competition - q5's also have a 6 month wait as do some vw's. In my view dealers in the uk need to start reserving build slots with standard orders then allow customers to customise when they confirm a order with deposit. Maybe this happens already but who knows.

On a side note if there is appetite I ll post some pics of my x3 when I get it next week, spec is:

Alpine White
19" 309 alloys
Privacy glass
Auto
Black leather with brushed aluminium
Business media
Rear view camera
Xenon lights
X line package
Mudflaps
All weather mats

+ 1 for the tracking, looking forward to your pics

See you have ordered Mudflaps (are you paying for dealer to fit? if so what is fitting cost?)

+1 for photos. Alpine White + 309s. Very nice.

Re. tracking, don't get me started! All they need is a web front end for orders from the UK/rest of the world. Everything else is already being done, it's just invisible to us. It's sooooo easy to setup.
