I'm wondering the same thing. I haven't been able to find the numbers anywhere. I'm going to guess that it comes in at 28 highway. I'm basing the guess on the difference between the 528i and the 335i with the 8 speed auto. I wonder what a diesel would do, too.

Garage List 2011 M3 Coupe e92 [3.00]

All I've seen so far is this ...
EPA mileage estimates for 2011 models had not been released in time for this review. But a four-cylinder engine, as well as possible diesel power, should help the 2011 BMW X3 match or exceed fuel-economy ratings for the outgoing model -- even though it’s likely to be larger and heavier. The 2010 X3 was rated at 17/24 mpg (city/highway) with either manual or automatic transmission. A four-cylinder or diesel X3 could be expected to beat that rating, while a 300-horsepower turbo-six model might not.

The BMW USA web site shows the 35i with 19 city, 26 highway. Very impressive. I'm guessing the 28i would be good for +2 highway MPG - based on the differences of other models with the same engines.

On the Canadian site in the build your own shows 9.5L/100Km avg for the 2.8 and 9.7L/100Km avg for the 3.0 which would equate to US mileage of 24.76 mpg and 24.25 mpg on average or 29.76 and 29.12 Imperial mpg on average.

Yeah. I figured the difference between the two would be more than that.
