Here are some informative size comparison slides from the official BMW X3 presentation. The first slide shows the new F23 X3 size compared to the outgoing E83 X3 and the second slide compares the sizes of the X3 to the X1 and X5. The all new X3 is not quite as much larger than the outgoing X3 as some have made it to be.

Very good info, thanks for posting.
The official length and height of the first-gen X5 (of which one I have) are, respectively, 184 and 68 inches. The conversion from millimiters to inches, if i am correct, would have the length and height of the second-generation X3 at 185.9 and 67.1 inches. Therefore, it is true to say that the exterior length and height is very much similar. So the width remains to be seen. Honestly, if the M-package looks indeed good, and with the top engine being the same as the 2011 X5 SAV. one is compelled to save the approx $ 10k by going for the X3, if interior room is not a huge factor... |

So according to this the cargo room in the X3 is 19.42 cubic feet and the X5 is 21.89 cu feet (google conversion)? That doesn't seem right, especially for the X5, I have a Land Rover LR2 with 24 cu feet of cargo space and my parents have a new X5, they have more room than I do in my LR2...
I am looking to get this new X3 but was hoping the cargo space would be similar to my current LR2, or at least within a couple cu feet. |

So in conclusion, according to our numbers here, the new x3 is longer by 2.2 inches, wider by 0.4 inches and lower by 0.4 inches. We can say with confidence that it is similar in size, if not larger.

An additional question, for full clarity. On the second image above (comparison between first-gen X5 and 2011 X3), is my understanding that the "hip-to-back-of-front-seat" length is 65cm to 62 cm, and that the "hip-to-toe" length is 92.9 cm to 93.3 cm (ie, X3 longer on this)? I suppose my overall question is whether we have conclusive info about how the interior dimensions of te new X3 compare to the ones of the first-gen X5...
