Hot Tunnel

Changed jobs a few weeks back and more stop start town driving. The last few weeks the transmission tunnel at the front has been getting very warm, even keys in the cup holder are quite warm, the side of the transmission tunnel are also quite warm to touch on the carpet etc.

Temperature today was only 10 degrees C so not a warm day but definitely a hot tunnel after 1 hour drive. Journey home no traffic and no heat felt through the carpet or cup holders,

Any ideas?

Did you select the "Coffee Warmer" option when you purchased the car? I believe it is also known as the "Tea Warmer" here in the UK.

Worth checking if the car is generating any codes that may indicate an issue that hasn’t reached critical at present.

Same as the pointless Wireless charger, ends up cooking your phone.

Meh, it won't (cell phones mght disconnect, if exceeding temp is indicated). But don't close the curtain over the shelf. This will be something different. If a charger and "heated" cupholder is crossed out, then I'd have the gearbox checked. I'm quite sure transmission oil temp cannot be seen in the secret diagnostics menu (only engine temp can be..). Does the car display any error (in notification area, in iDrive Car - Drive data..., on instrument cluster (wrench symbol))?

Same thing happened to me but it was when I had a dual-USB adapter plug in the cig lighter, charging 2 phones while on a road trip. Once I unplugged it it the issue went away. Never tried it again so not sure if it was just a fluke situation or not.

No heated cup holders or wireless charging, it seems to be heat transfer from the transmission

Also checked and rear temp is staying in sync with front at 19 I like the car cool

Only happens in traffic and stop start conditions after 40 mins driving but outside temp was low, don’t want to pay the dealer to drive it for an hour to check

I have BMW extended warranty thankfully so if the gearbox does go bang

Looks like my AC unit is at fault, was very bad today and reached round to back vent to find very hot air coming out. Checked sync etc and all 3 zones were on 19 degrees. Also checked setting re default temp for rear zone but that wasn’t on. Explains why my son mentioned he keeps feeling hot in the back

Found othe posts about software updates or new AC controller, I have extended warranty so will get it looked at
