Just a quick update from me, just finished putting the engine back together. Good as new (or better?) All updated parts, hopefully i can get another 100K out of this thing. I now have all the tools AND experience to fix the timing chain problem, so, if after the suit settles and some of you don't benefit, do hit me up and i will help out. I have all the receipts and haven't added them up yet, but the total cost is around $1500 (parts and Harbor Freight tools). Thanks and good weekend all!

No sir, there's no "how to" when taking an engine apart, sorry. Newtis has a lot of instructions and torques (which is very important). I did it all right in the driveway, so please don't be discouraged if BMW decides not to help you out. Also, your car is eligible for factory warranty, tell them you're hearing high pitched noise from the engine and they muat replace it no questions asked. Thanks

Mine died last Friday...
Was driving from Memphis to PCB last Friday when I lost power in the middle of the highway near Birmingham. First the 'oil pressure low' warning light came on, immediately followed by the 'drivetrain' warning light. Pulled over and got towed to the dealer in B'ham, where they told me that the engine was blown and a new engine would be roughly 15-17K.
They didn't visually inspect the timing chain...just a hunch by their lead mechanic based on the ticking he heard when attempting to get the engine to start. They offered to do a deeper dive into the issue for an additional $1000, which I declined. I'm having the car towed back to Memphis, where I will look into finding a second-hand engine for replacement. I will be tracking the lawsuit. My car (2013 528i xdrive) only had 74K miles, and I owe what they quoted me for a new engine, so that's not a consideration. I have been religious with maintenance, with all work done at the dealer. |

BMW has extended the mileage requirement Enhanced Goodwill warranty program to 7 model years Old and 110 k miles. I needed a replacement turbo charger and worked with my local dealer to give me approximately 20 percent off this replacement

After doing little research, I thought I would be clear of the timing chain issue by buying an X3 28i from the 2015 model year. I was looking for the 2011 (N52) model, but couldn't find one without high mileage of course, so opted for either the 35i or a 28i from 2015. Ended up with a CPO 2015 X3 28i currently at about 33k mi.
With the amount of engine failure experiences (and plaintiffs), I do hope a recall will be in effect soon. Doesn't seem like ANYONE had any success with BMW fixing/replacing the engine because of the timing chain issue. |

N20 New Engine
my engine just shit, 2013, 97k Dealer covering 50% of a new motor, 2yr warranty. 27k miles over, so BMW could have said NO, for what it's worth. Purchased from the same dealership may have helped. So i'm in it for $5K. |

Please register a complaint on NHTSA website for Timing-Chain issue
I called NHTSA today and so far they only have a couple of complaints pertaining to the timing-chain problem. There are 68 other complaints related to power-braking and an investigation is launched for only that.
Most of you know by now that BMW extended the warranty on timing-chain only to 7 year/ 70k, but failed to have sent letters to all the owners. This timing-chain is a universal problem and I seriously insist that a complaint be filed so an investigation can begin. Can you take a moment and go to www.nhtsa.gov and write up a complaint of when your issue occurred and what you have done about it. It takes less than 5 minutes and is very very straight forward - enter VIN number (it is available online on your insurance declaration page), select "Engine & Powertrain" as the affected components and type in the incident. Also contact KKG Law office and talk to the paralegal about your issue. |

So I had this happen to me Friday
In Canada we got two lawsuits https://www.siskinds.com/class-action/bmw-engine/ https://www.strosbergco.com/class-actions/bmw/ 1) Timing chain and oil pump drive chain (Now) 2) Fuel tank leak diagnostic Module (NVLD) (2019) 3) Coolant thermostat (2016) 4) Engine oil feed line to the turbocharger (2018) I had an extended 7yr/120k miles warranty My car is a year over 8th yr/94,448 miles BMW Case manager said we don't have to do a recall, issue an advisory or notice to owners. I think they might be waiting for someone to stall their car on a left turn due to one of the 3 issues here and get T-boned by the oncoming car. Don't think it will help but willing to do an inspection on my car and provide paperwork supporting your cases. In the US they got this going https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sh...1359171&page=5 Join the action on the ClassAction.... we paid top dollar for a reliable and a premium product.... they took that top dollar and are trying to screw us.... This personal now..... you think I'ma fool! Our nations are built on Just Judicial Systems that promise and protects the consumers against this kind of exploitation ..... Rise Up my tax paying people.... Judicial system is slow, we all know! doesn't mean it has to become ineffective ..... PM me if you consider I can help.....
