Just saw this new android release for F25/F26 with a 10.25" screen. I love the screen size and option, but I'm not sure I like the plastic frame that it sits on. I bet you could just mount the screen to the dash nicely without the plastic piece

looks nice.

only issue is the 2gb ram, I doubt running music + navi + bt cell phone + other background process will last long. 2-3 years top?

On a 2017 x3 is short...

hopefully it will get some ''out of the playstore'' developers that will give some aftermarket app that will run with low ram devices.

I dont know if we can still do swap partition to share the ram with the flash storage. Slower of course, but less chance to crash. This is what I did back in the days to make my HTC live longer since the CPU was powerful enough, but only with 364mb ram.

I'm definitely thinking about upgrading to 10.25" set-up, theres a guy on eBay that sells OEM kit and does coding and he said he can do my X3 as well. The 6 inch screen looks embarrassing. I used to not mind it until I sat in some cars with newer screens.

yeah a big screen is very nice.

im on a ''do I really need it'' thought, since the x3 is the 2nd car (about 3000 miles/year) and I have a smartphone...

My x3 got all the package, but the navi, I wish I can say '' fully equipped''. I even got an optional exterior color and optional interior color.

I give a shoot on those android unit on my DD, and I do not regret it at all. Everything work as OEM, more feature, better sound, etc. only some minor stuff, but nothing major considering the price point.

I love my 8.8 inch screen.

Now can run android auto or just waze. Love that it has Google Play Store.

Operationally very few. I have the full i-drive just like before. When I switch to Android; it works like an android tablet. I can use the I-drive controller to move to different tiles. When I am in an APP like Waze it is just touch screen.

The screen does get finger prints, but that is true of all touch screens.

The major CON is the avenue to support. They did not provide any email or phone. They have been responsive through the Alipress. They sent me a video instructions and files I needed to update my unit to ID-6 look.

Installation was straight forward. Hardest part was getting the big connector to fit with all the other pieces. Did not have to cut or splice any wires. Could return it to stock if I wanted.

If BMW were smart; they would use this solution.

I'm going to go with the 8.8" screen when I do this in a few months. It comes with Android Oreo and has OEM fitment.

The more I look at this set-up the more I dislike the plastic base that holds the screen, it looks way too aftermarket. I saw someone who fit a 10.25" screen in the dash like the way OEM screen sits. I would probably just do that. I really hope the screen can be detached from that plastic mount thing.

Should we try to set-up a group buy? there is a ton of these on ali ranging from $360-$800, but they all look to have the same android system and same RAM.

do not tease me !

But 2gb is to low for the price imo.
And here in canada we're always get ripped with this (shipping + customs)

for the plastic quality, theres some nice diy with 3M textured wrap to match interior, or give a more premium feel.

my android unit in my audi, on picture, the plastic look very cheap and shiny. Once installed, only if you take a long close look you might noticed it. Hopefully its the same for the f25 version.

Has anyone confirmed the 10.25 inch Android 8.1 Car Multimedia Player for BMW X3 F25/BMW X4 F26 (2013-2016) GPS Navigation

is in fact not a fake Android Oreo with simply an Android 8.1 overlay?

Hello Ylinen, I wonder if you can answer me a few questions about your android navi.

1. If the navi is in original Idrive menu (running radio for example), and you turn off the car, after restarting the car, the idrive will start with original radio on, but it have to boot for 45-1 min or it is starting in 2 sec. exactly like original NBT unit standalone..
2. If original radio is on can I use Waze at the same time? (don't need audio guidance from Waze) and manage radio stations from HUD and steering wheel?
3. And if Waze is running I'm still be able to answer calls from original bluetooth car module and see caller info from dash/navi or HeadUp and use controls from steering wheel also?
Thank you for your answers, and excuse my english.
