I don't know why all the hate. I like how sleek the rear looks, BUT, it doesn't talk to the front of the car..which looks a bit "bulky(?)", feminine, as someone pointed out in the other thread.
I already don't like the lack of character that each model has, copying the same front on the X3/4 and X5/6. If the X4 had its own front design, it might have had a more coherent design all around. |

BMW makes some ugly front ends. You almost need an M car to have an attractive looking vehicle. Disappointing.
At least that awkward rear fender body crease is gone. Side profile is a big improvement. |

So, M40d is going to be available for the X4 according to the rear badge. is that engine coming for the X3 aswell or will the X3 only have the M40i???

Side and rear look great.. front end, not so much. The headlights are too stubby or something; the front is just way too busy and bulky compared to the sleek rear.

It seems that they fixed the humpy side profile and the rear end looks decent. Maybe at the next iteration, 7 years from now, they will also fix the front-end, especially the headlights.

I have to say that this is a refreshing departure from their bubbly, bulky, and overplayed styling. I love what the did with the rear lights. Their rear lights have been bothering me lately - the new 5 series tail lights could do with a shrinkage of about 80%.
However, I do not like the windowline at the rear. Could you imagine how smooth and sexy it'd look with a normal Hoffmeister kink instead of that jagged mess? It'd really look business and beautiful at the same time. It looks like a DVD skipped and got distorted right now. But, if it drives nice and gives some actual road feedback, it'll be a nice car.

I'm so conflicted... lol
The pics in the other thread which is now locked for some reason... just looked horrible at that angle. In the side profiles of this set of pics it actually looks pretty cool. I think one thing I hate about this and the previous generation X4 is how skinny the wheels were. The concept had some nice fat rubber filling out the wheel wells. The production versions look super small/skinny for some reason. vs this anemic looking thing: Edit: Maybe the black body cladding of the concept over the wheel arches and side skirts gives it a bit more rugged look? |

I think my other big issue with the new design is that the front is rather bulky... lots of stuff going on taking up a lot of the face... not much 'body color' with all the intakes and huge grille and headlights. I dont mind it personally... I like it a lot on the X3.
But it just doesn't go with the rear, thats almost all body with a couple little slits for lights and a license plate which is on the bumper and not on the hatch.... its just wayyy clean. I'm not mad. I know it looks a bit like the Benz but its already grown on me. What I cannot reconcile is how its the same vehicle. The design languages are fine on their own I just dont see em' together. IT kinda reminds me of what Acura did on the new TLX and MDX. They slapped the new corporate face on the front and did barely anything on the rear and it just doesn't work together, despite it them both being fine on their own. |

the new X4 is not targeting current owners, 6GT meets GLE coupe with a sprinkle of X3, maybe it will cast the net wider. That rear msport bumper and white color is unflattering.

As far as the X4 goes there will always be criticisms of the polarizing design. While I don't like the x4/x6, this looks better than the first one

This looks really good but that front is too overpowering. Needs to be cleaned up somehow but with the kidneys being it's signature look gonna be this way for a while. Would like to be in it to see how much the slope compromises the space.

meh.... I was waiting to see the new X4 and now kinda dissapointed to be honest. Don't like the new back it looks out of place with the rest of car. I guess I'm gonna trade my X4 for the new X3, that's just sad 😔
