Exhaust mod - unplug the actuator in the trunk
i did this on my son's 335 and wanted to try it on the x4.

@sf2360, i believe you can't just unplug the actuator. Because by default it is in closed position. The actuator will create a vacuum to open the flap.
So, in order to let it open, either do a golf tee mod to physically hold the flap open or supply a constant 12v to the actuator to create a vacuum. Don't quote me on the voltage, but it should be in my opinion. Golf tee mod should be the way, since constant voltage will wear the actuator prematurely.

im not sure about on the X4 but on the M4 the valves stay open when the car is turned off...i was going to do this to my X4 too so i will see this weekend.

X4guy, I have done it on my 35i X3. It is not the same as the old "golf tee mod" as the flap is closed until it receives vacuum from the vacuum control valve in the left rear of the hatch. I spliced the vacuum lines together to bypass the control and the flap opens as soon as the car is started. It is a little loud in the X3 definitely noticeable and a little on the drony side. I'm thinking the ExhaustMeister mod might be a good idea so that you can easily control when you want it open.
