Comfort Access - Prevent Boot Open
I have an MY14 X3 with Comfort/Keyless access. UK spec.
Because it's keyless, the key lives in my wallet. Unfortunately on a number of occasions, the open tailgate button has been pressed whilst the fob has been in my wallet - I assume from the way I have been sitting something has pushed against it. I have gone out to my car and found that it's been open with the tailgate raised for potentially hours - and there has been work gear in the boot that would have been quite vulnerable. Keeping the fob in my wallet works for me as I can keep my house keys separate and it's quite useful. If I have to keep my keys on a keyring, I might as well not have ordered the feature. Is there anyway of: A: Disabling the open tailgate function from the fob or B: Opening the fob up to temporarily remove the physical button? Ideally BMW would make a wallet fob that was slimline and did't have any buttons on it at all. It's driving me mad (and the neighbour is probably wondering what on earth is going on!) Cheers, Chris

I don't tend to carry loose change so it just lives in my coin pouch... Just a normal wallet, honest!!
See! I didn't know about the key case, how much bulk does it add to the key? Is the case hard enough so as to prevent accidental pressing of the button? Cheers!

Move the fob or wallet to your front right pocket. By leaving it in your back pocket you are putting pressure on the button causing the boot to open. This happens to me periodically when I have the fob in my right front pocket and rest my leg against the side of the center console (I am across the pond therefore I drive from the left side of the car as opposed to driving from the right side of the car).

I bought a "case" from the dealer that prevents the buttons from inadvertently be pushed.

On a different vehicle, I disabled one of the remote buttons (the panic alarm) by opening the remote and placing a tiny piece of tape between the contacts beneath the button in question. If it's possible to get inside the BMW remote, that would work.

I had a look to see if I could open up the key - i'd have just removed the tailgate button but it seems to be a sealed unit apart from where the battery goes?
I have ordered one of the key covers from eBay and it should arrive tomorrow. B****y expensive for what they are though!! Thanks for the help

The "Costanza Effect"
Gotta say guys, I think there is something a foot here. "The Costanza Effect". Can't believe in this digital world people are not taking advantage of digitizing wallets. I've reduced my "Costanza Wallet" sometime ago by digitizing a number of my cards. I use mSecure on my iPhone which keeps a lot of the card information I wouldn't use on a daily basis there. Additionally I take pictures of cards that don't require scanning. My posture has improved remarkably
