Installed my New Alpine PDX-M6 with one Alpine SWR-12D4!!!
Amp was rated at 658 RMS so using a Multimeter I tuned the amp to push 37volts at about 3/4 volume. This thing rocks!! Not overly boomy and the SQ is simple amazing. Such a great addition to the Premium audio system. Loss very little trunk space. Here is a installed pic

I did it myself. The amp is a Alpine PDX-M12 and that cost me $500. The sub is Alpine Type R 12D4 that cost me $175. Box ran me like $30. So roughly $700.
I used the left and right underseat subwoofer wires for the signal to the amp. I used the power antenna wire for a remote turn on switch. Every thing is right in the trunk so installation was quick, easy, and painless

I have the same question as DonC, why? But I'll make my question a little longer...
![]() IMHO the Professional sound system is perfect with a powerfull enough bass, weren't you satisfied with the standard sound quality?

The premium sound in the x3 is lacking bass. As you turn up the volume the highs drown out the lows. There is no harmony between the lows and highs.
Now with my system, I have the gains set up perfect where the lows match the highs perfectly. It sounds great and of course if i want to to it up alil higher to get some thump (as much as possible from a sealed box that is :P ), i can ![]()

Thanks for the motivation. I am putting in a JL audio 600W (XD6001) with a JL Audio 12" sub (12W3v34). using the LC2i 2 channel line output and a subwoofer control module (to increase or decrease sub volume). Thanks for the motivation. Will post pictures and reaction when i'm done.

you have no options besides going straight custom. It takes alot of work and more than $1000 budget to reconfigure the stock hifi to a premium sound. There is a topic here on the forums of what somebody else did in your situation

I'm trying to do the same thing with mine (was actually looking at Alpine also). How did you get power off of the battery, did you just use the screw-nut positive terminal or were you able to locate a clip to go into the battery safety device? I've tried googling every combination possible for the name of the battery clip but can't seem to find any..

I screwed the amp power wire to the screw on the positive battery terminal

In the middle of my own install (lol..) - did you happen to have the wiring diagram you could share for this? I.e. what color pair these and the antenna wire are.
