This makes sense. It'll take care of the quirky rear end of the x3 and make it a much more aesthetically pleasing sav. However the performance of the x1 will always be better bc of the weight advantage and the same powertrain options.

100% PAID FOR!

Woot! I hope its a better looker than the x6, as it is now, the x3 and x5 appeal more to me than the x6...
Why is everyone complaining? The future of car MFG is "niche" vehicles, instead of selling 1,000,000 x3's (for example) BMW now might sell 850,000 x3's and 400,000 x4's. That's a net increase of 25%! This also helps keep resale value higher on both the x3 and the x4... There is no reason to complain, more models are good for everybody...

Hope that the X6 and X4 will come with a manual transmission. They have attitude on the outside, however they are namby-pamby with only automatics available. Automatics were first invented for handicapped people...

If BMW does happen to make a mini X6 for under $60k that would be pretty badass. Personally I have no problem with niche cars but I think BMW needs to have clear distinctions between different models either in the form of better tech, interior amenities, or performance. Moving from a 3 to a 5-series or a X3 to an X5 is a noticeable step up so I hope BMW keeps to this formula with the X4 and not just build a car that simply looks different filling a unnecessary niche that nobody needs.

X4
Uh...I assume you're joking and don't need a dictionary...the word you meant to say or spell is "break," but, as noted above, I'm sure that you know that, and were just kidding as to the word, along with deleting the word "do" before "they need."

considering this will probably be the same price as the new Porsche Macan, and they will be coming out around the same time, I think I would go with the Macan! I don't see how the X4 can match the looks or the Porsche. Of course a lot will come down to weight and handling of each one.

Did you just come up with that or you did some reasearch? Below is what makes the X6 so special over the X5. Looks like the X4 will not have that advantage over the X3 and there were rumours as it is heavy and costly it might not even happen for the next generation of the X6.Last edited by 1230vani; 11-14-2012 at 05:53 AM. |

Agree. I think the X6 has met its sales projections. I like the concept but I think it's too expensive. I'll take a look at an X4, and I think a lot of people will.
It doesn't carry a traditional BMW appeal, but then again who said it did?

BMW's X models contribute a lot of sales and at the end of the day stretch the company's profits . X1 is Europes best selling SUV model and is a huge success and now that is spreading to the US where the car has gone on sale.
If you perform as a strategist to determine what you would have in the brand then you have to take into consideration the important factors. One being Demand for crossover and SUV's are growing globally. Sports cars are declining aswell as luxury sedans. The new X3 has surpassed all expectations and whilst in its twilight years the X5 still performs well at a global sales level. The BMW X6 has stretched BMW's global appeal and is responsible for the surge in global markets such as China , Brazil , Russia and the Middle East. Even if you consider the MINI Countryman it has surpassed the MINI to become the best selling MINI model globally. The new MINI Paceman is the MINI that will turn heads due to its very stylish appearance. The new X4 extends that sportier aspect to the premium entry segment bring everything from the X6 including the sportier aspect to a lower segment. BMW know that the X4 will be up against a Porsche so the brief is to make the X4 as competitive as possible. It is no use lying down because the car uses an Audi chassis especially when Porsche has publically berated the Q5 chassis and announced they had to re-engineer to become suitable for the Macan. What comes next? The premium luxury sedan globally is in decline , whereas the luxury SUV is market is growing. BMW do not see the RR brand being the aesthetic choice for a luxury SUV and feel the BMW brand is more suitable for such a concept. The next generation BMW X1 moves to the FWD architecture and will spawn a baby X2 model for the first time. The next phase of Crossover extends to both MINI and BMW with the MINI Paceman XL and BMW's FAST crossover-MPV-Touring-SAV-Coupe hybrid which actually is intended for the customer who misses the utilarian look of the E83 X3 as some customers have explained the current model looks too desirable to use offroad.
