X3 AC vent blows out black fibers
Hi,
My 2007 BMW X3 has been blowing out black fiber from the AC vent when AC is running. The fibers appear very thin and brittle. I changed my cabin filter and also the hood heat/noise insulation pad but the problem still persists. I took it to the BMW dealership service in Phoenix but they dismissed it saying its not coming from the AC itself. They said it not coming from any part in the car and suggested that to find the source they would have to take apart the dash board etc. at my cost. I wanted to see if anyone on this forum has had the same problem and if this is a known issue. Any idea how to diagnose this problem. Thanks -JAK |

I wouldn't worry... It's probably only asbestos.

If it's a 2007 model you are in the wrong forum, but I would guess it's a problem with the current or previous cabin filter breaking up. If the previous filter show signs of damage it could have left residue in the system.
