iOS 6 working with SMS and e-mail :) - XBimmers

Got the new iOS installed just now. Tested the Bluetooth MAP immediately. Success

An envelope shows up to notify when new messages arrive. You get to them from the Office and Telephone on the iDrive.

It only shows new messages, not the mailbox or old SMS.

Activate your iPhone by going into Bluetooth settings, click on the left arrow on the BMW unit. Activate Show Messages and voila

It's not working for me either. I have an iphone 4, not the 4s with siri. Could that be the issue?

It took a while to start working when I first set it up. Turn it all on and by the next day everything should be showing up. I think everything needs to power cycle before the messages start getting sent.

Okay there is a few things you have to do to get this working.

Make sure you have the latest software update installed on your car through the settings/software update section.

In your car idrive menu go to telephone and bluetooth. Then scroll down to Bluetooth options and make sure message box is ticked.

On your iphone make sure you have iOS 6 installed as this is the latest release from Apple.

On your iphone click on Settings/Bluetooth then the little arrow that points to the right next to your device. Ensure you have Show Notifications switched on and sync contacts on.

Finally click on Settings/Notifications/Messages and at the bottom View on Lock screen make sure this is on. You can do the same for Mail if you wish to view mail as well.

Up to now I'm pretty sure that messages and mail only appear on your cars messages under office if they arrive to your phone while it is connected to the car. e.g. old messages don't appear and likewise when the ignition is turned off the messages disappear.

If you have 609 and 6NL you should be good to go. Lots of the other otions you've listed are prerequisites for these

On the phone (3GS), settings/bluetooth, click on blue arrow - I only get a box for sync contacts, not show notifications. Any ideas?

I dont think the 3gs iphone has message mapping in ios6

Think its just iphone 4 onwards

Damn, just when I thought I really didn't need to change my 3GS

I was hoping to have this feature as I get text messages when I'm in the car and the phone is in the armrest and it would be easier to glance quickly at the screen.

6NR is BMW Apps: iPhone plug-in, Twitter, Facebook, web radio

This is all part of BMW Office. You don't need 6NR for it

I see three envelops in messages:
1 for each of my two mailboxes on my iphone
1 for the google message directions I sent to the car from my computer

Does the system show text messages too? Just unread ones?

Can you look at all of this while the car is in drive and moving or only stopped and in park?

Hope it kicks in tomorrow morning when I restart the car and phone, I put in too much time already on it and I'm burned=-out..I should check my car software too - I just took delivery 2 weeks ago, I would think there is not an update available yet??
