Using iphone question

Debating whether to order BMW APPs. If all I want is to play iPhone's audio through the X3's speakers (no song control), do I have to order BMW APPS? Or is the cradle enough, or is there just a cable that I can use to connect the iphone?

Thx,

The phrase "all I want" is often an indicator that your request is more complicated than it seems

BMW Apps does contain a bit of superfluous stuff that I doubt I'll ever use, but I configured the option anyway, because it had a negligible effect on the monthly payment when compared to the tech package. Among the superfluous features are Facebook, Twitter, and Email integration. I really don't care to read those at stop lights.

However, BMW Apps does add two really cool things:

1) Plugins (currently iPod out)

2) Pandora

If you watch the video below, you can see these two apps in action. If you don't use these features, then BMW Apps probably isn't worth it for you, but we really like them.

iPod out is shown right away, but Pandora isn't feature until around the 5 minute mark.

You definitely don't need apps. Without tech package, all you need is a BMW Y cable (USB + aux). With tech package you only need a standard white USB or you can play audio via Bluetooth with no physical connection

For the cost of it, get BMW Apps to have your car future proofed. Retrofitting it is costly, depending on the hardware installed. Here's an example: for mine, it would have cost 200€ from the factory. Retrofit would now cost me close to 800-900€.

Plus, the BMW interface is horrible to use compared to the Apple style one.

For the cost its a no brainer. Forget facebook and twitter but the web radio is a definite plus feature.
