I wonder if plastic dip would work... has anyone tried it on their previous BMW grills?

Agreed!! I popped our grills out a few weeks back and painted them matte black. They look perfect on an alpine white X3. Really no other color on our X3 now other than white, black and a bit of red and orange in the lights.
