Destination arrow in instrument cluster??
Hi Folks,
Just picked up a 2013 X3 35i a couple of days ago and I'm absolutely loving it. This is my first BMW and I don't think it will be my last I do have a question though: If I use the navi to get somewhere, such as a drive-through, where I don't stop the engine at my destination, when I drive away the instrument cluster continues to display an arrow indicating the direction and distance to my last destination. Guidance is no longer active and I have tried the button on the end of the indicator stalk to switch back to the trip computer display. However, it still returns to the arrow display after a few seconds and I have not been able to figure out how to get rid of it. My dealer said it should disappear after a little while, once it figures out you are no longer going to that destination. I have driven for 15 minutes and 5 miles away from the destination but the arrow still remains. Any ideas? Thanks! |

Hmm. If you haven't cancelled the navigation though when you drive away it will still assume you want to go back to the drive-thru?

I had the same situation. I cancelled the guidance yet the arrow still showed up on the instrument cluster. For me, this Nav unit is the weakest link in this otherwise fine auto. Very disappointing.

That's odd. As we approach our destination we usually hit the voice command button and say 'Stop Guidance' or maybe 'Stop Navigation' (can't remember exactly which) and it kills the arrows completely. Regardless if the suv is turned off or not.

I'll have to give that a try. On the two occasions it has happened so far, I have just arrived at the destination and the navigation system announces I have arrived. After that it automatically stops guidance but the arrow remains. As previously mentioned cancelling guidance again after this point does nothing. I hope I don't need to remember to manually stop guidance before arriving at a destination.....

Maybe that is the difference; arriving vs not actually arriving. I think we almost always kill the Nav verbally before it says 'Destination Reached' or whatever it says when you get there. If I can get some seat time in the X3 this weekend I'll see what happens when I allow it to navigate all the way to the destination.

This has been my experience also. Guidance shows as having been stopped so there isn't anything else to do. If I press the BC button on the turn signal stalk to display something else, the arrows come back after a few seconds. A little annoying.

I remember reading a post here where someone said it was a feature. The reasoning was that you arrive at your destination, but you need to find parking the NAV will keep you informed of where you parked in relation to your destination.

Now that's creative thinking! It would be okif it could be cancelled. But if I use nav to drop someone off and then continue on my way another 20km, it keeps pointing me back to where I did the drop off.

It really should be easily disabled but I guess that's just not the case. I played around a little more with it picking up a friend for lunch today. As expected, the arrow remained after arriving at my destination. The only way I could get rid of it was to select a new destination and immediately cancel route guidance. That cleared it but it sure is a stretch to call that behavior a feature. Oh well, the rest of the car more than makes up for it.
Does anyone know a way to provide input to BMW on these types of issues? |

This has been an issue since the 2011's starting being produced. Here is an earlier thread on the same topic:
http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showth...vigation+arrow To my knowledge, BMW hasn't come up with a fix for it. |

Just for the hell of it I sent an e-mail describing the behavior to BMW Customer Relations : customerrelations@bmwusa.com
I don't expect it will do much good but if enough people start asking the question they just might have to come up with an answer |

I messed with it this weekend too. Seems like the arrow just doesn't want to go away once you arrive at the destination. Rather odd.
We hardly ever use the nav and when we do we'll just try to remember to say 'Stop Guidance' right before arrival. For folks that use nav all the time though, that would get kinda annoying I suppose. |

I still haven't found the thread, but the hack that someone suggested was to program one of the programmable buttons to bring you to the start/stop page I think. Not a solution, but it might lessen the issue.

This has happened to me once exactly as described - nav system thinks it is off and has finished but directional arrow still persists. I cannot reproduce it easily nor can I remember what I did to cause it in the first place.
It is a bug.
