Car built waiting for shipping to UK
Hi Hornsey,
If that's what you meant I apologise for misinterpreting your comments and taking it personally. I have therefore removed the entry. On another note, contacted today by my dealer who has confirmed that my car has been built and is waiting to be shipped to the UK. Delivery now likely to be early to mid June. Shame can't be tracked but guess not long now! Quick question, anyone had their car or considering getting their car protected by one of these new ceramic paint sealants? Meant to last longer and have better warranties re the protection they offer, especially against bird droppings.

But you can for spelling my name wrongly! BTW ... that was a joke (just in case) ... unless the spelling of my name wrong was also a joke in which case the joke is on me. Pity ... it was funny in its own way. Actually, I was starting to get paranoid as I couldn't work out what I had said ... maybe you can point me at the errant statement ... I won't be able to sleep otherwise! Anyway ... congrats on the latest status change ... welcome to the long last mile ... |

In my relentless pursuit of production statistics I have resorted to extracting VIN specs one at a time to build a database of build dates and colour and spec options.
I have only done it for the 20D and the 35D as I don’t have a valid VIN part for a 2013 30D … of someone want to post one, I will add it to my list of things to do to pass time. Anyway on average they seem to be making 18.65 20Ds and 0.85 35Ds for the UK market each day. I have uploaded a zip of a cut the data I have downloaded so far … only 395 cars so far … its quite labour intensive but the source data is quite interesting as I have the entire vehicle spec which I will get round to analysing at some stage. I got at far as 21/04 for the 20D and all of the 35Ds to date. Ideally I will capture the first month of 2013 production for the 20D, 30D and 35D and then see what’s what. If someone can give me a 30D VIN part that would be cool. Last edited by Horsey; 05-14-2012 at 09:11 PM.. Reason: Updated ZIP file |

Some very interesting and revealing stats there Horsey. It looks like production of all R/H/D vehicles, not just for the UK as 156 units were specified with kilometre readout. It will be great when you finish and update the 20D for the same period if and when you have the time. Did you find the reason for the large engine being delayed so much?
It seems only 391 cars went with warning triangle and first aid kit – they forgot the other 4 |

I have updated the statistics to include only England/Ireland (as best I can).
These figures are from 1 April to 15 May. Total of 842 X3s (1-2% of production I am guessing) There are about 200 dealers in the UK and Ireland I think, so on average that works out at about 3 X3s per dealer per month (in the crudest sense). X20D - 726 (86%) X30D - 93 (11%) X35D - 23 (3%) Black Sapphire - 157 (19%) Alpine White - 144 (17%) Space Gray - 129 (15%) Titanium Silver - 93 (11%) Deep Sea Blue - 80 (10%) Carbon Black - 73 (9%) Bluewater - 28 (3%) Jet Black - 47 (6%) Mineral Silver - 45 (5%) Vermilion Red - 32 (4%) Bronze - 15 (2%) Automatic Boot - 184 (22%) BMW Apps - 40 (5%) Comfort Access - 68 (8%) DAB - 196 (23%) DVD Changer - 9 (1%) Electronic Damper Control - 52 (6%) Hands-free system with USB interface - 215 (26%) Headlight cleaning system - 232 (28%) Head-up display - 20 (2%) HiFi system Professional - 22 (3%) High-beam assistant - 186 (22%) Internet - 64 (8%) Luggage compartment net - 32 (4%) Navigation system Business - 87 (10%) Navigation system Professional - 391 (47%) Panorama glass roof - 190 (23%) Performance Control - 402 (48%) Reversing camera - 127 (15%) Reversing camera and Top View - 78 (9%) Seat heating driver/passenger - 556 (66%) Seat heating, rear - 93 (11%) Speed Limit Info - 13 (2%) Standard suspension - 81 (10%) Steering wheel heater - 93 (11%) Sun protection glazing - 329 (39%) Through-loading system - 149 (18%) Trailer coupling - 90 (11%) TV function - 6 (1%) Tyres with runflat properties - 550 (64%) Xenon Light - 232 (27.6%) I am trying to decide how it makes me feel to have bought a care that almost no one else is buying, with a level of options that most people seem to be avoiding. I have never been one to follow the crowd, and I didn't buy the car for resale, but for some reason all of a sudden I feel a bit sad. Last edited by Horsey; 05-16-2012 at 07:31 PM.. If you are happy to spend the money and are not botthered with resale value (in relation to what you have spent), then why not? You should enjoy your car the way you want to. I have a very well spec'd car on order (albeit 2.0D), but really still wish that I could add a few more options - DAB, better speakers and the 19" M wheels.... . Just not sure that we can justify the cash: I can normally justify practical things (like sun protection glass, window blinds, satnav, heated seats), but have a hard time justifying the "really nice to haves"... Nice work Horsey
Can I request a recount on the stats - do you know why 'heated seats' did not come out in the wash of the '% options ordered' We cant wait to see images of all your options, did you take the battery upgrade to power all the extra electrics you specc'd? |

Didn't know there was one. Have a tow bar to tow the extra diesel I will need. Which stats, my summary or the raw data. All the data is in the Excel file ...

no battery upgrade its not a truck
I just wondered why the heated seats option was not listed in the very interesting summary you made of what all other UK customers spend money on. |

Brilliant work Horsey and very interesting stats indeed ! My car is one of them though no where near as many options as stated there.
As QT rightly put it, there is nothing to be sad about ticking all the options available. If you can afford it and are looking to keep the car for a long time, you would want to enjoy all the options possible. Enjoy it mate..not long to go now ;-) |

This whole tracking thing is mumbo jumbo ...
I have just been told that my car has gone to 9610 (In Transit). I am told this means my car is in Southampton and is awaiting transfer to the BMW Distribution Centre at Thorne. According to the production logs, my car has a production date of 1/05/2012. The next available WW ship to the UK near that date was GRAND MERCURY which left on the 8/05/2012 and which arrives in Southampton on 27/05/2012. The previous ship, DON JUAN, left on 29/04/2012 and arrived in the UK on 13/05/2012. The only way I can see that my car can be in the UK is if it was on the DON JUAN, in which case how could it have a production date of 1/05/2012. I really hope it is here ... although the dealer is still saying June delivery! Nothing makes sense any more ... I am VERY confused. Either the production date is misleading or the dealer is wrong about my car being in the UK ... |

Congratulations Horsey, it is on UK shores !!
It is all very confusing indeed. Maybe as dnw says if the vehicle inspection is now done in Deutschland before being delivered to the UK, it might be that BMW now use a different carrier to transport vehicles and hence we cannot trace the vehicle on the WW Global website? That seems the only explanation. My dealer has also said they will not wait for the car to be transported to the BMW distribution centre but they will have it collected directly from the port and transported to their dealership. Something you might want to ask your dealer too? |
