Porsche Panamera- Addition to the family! One Question!
Hello All,
My mother received her Panamera (V6) last night , and she has been loving it since. Its a beautiful car and she loves the hell out of it. But theres one problem....My question: The salesman has told my mother something very interesting that i do not agree with. The salesman said: A Porsche's engine break-in is different than a regular car's engine break-in, in that you need to (my mothers words here) "goose it" and give it a nice foot-full of gas often. Basically, the dealer is telling my mom to drive it hard and ride up the RPMs. Being from the 335i/M3 crowd, i have a hard time believing that high RPMs and heavy engine loads are good on breaking in a brand new engine with under *20 miles*. I know the M3 is RPM limited until you get nearly 2k miles on the odometer! So, is this true? Or is this dealer full of it? Before my mother starts flooring it at every stoplight, i need to confirm it And yes, i did but i could only find stuff about reviews and magazine tests....

Not familiar with P car's, but wouldn't the owners manual have some info on engine break-in procedures?
Did a quick google search...here's a link http://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf...amera_PCNA.pdf Index Engine, break in hints......6 Page 6! Hope that helps and what u are looking for! |

Maybe what the salesman was trying to get as is you are supposed to vary your speeds. Meaning, when cruising down the highway at 55 mph, every 5-10 min go to 65, down to 50, etc. You don't want to go WOT but higher RPM and fast speeds are not going to hurt the car during a "break-in".

Broke my 1er in HARD and it runs perfectly with almost 60,000 miles on it. I recall a thread about breaking in engines a few years back and some supporting evidence showing a hard break in could be better.

FYI, rpm's are not reduced on an ///M until the break-in service.

The Panamera V6 is basically the Panamera V8 minus 2 cylinders. Same engine is in the Cayenne, now this is where it gets confusing the 3.0 diesel and 3.0 hybrid use Audi V6's.
