VDC in Canada... again - BMW response. - XBimmers

update: Variable Damper Control is available on M sport equipped X3's in Canada.

Here is the response from BMW Canada confirming same:

Thank you for contacting BMW Canada. We appreciate your enthusiasm for our vehicles and are pleased to answer your questions about the Variable Damper Control (VDC).

The M Sport Package does not include VDC. In order to get VDC (option 223 Dynamic Damper Control) in your BMW, you will need to order Dynamic Comfort Package (code ZNR).

If you have any further comments, please reply to this email or contact the Customer Interaction Centre at 1-800-567-2691. Again, thank you for contacting BMW.

Yes but it automatically unselects the M Sport Package. In Canada it appears it's either/or but not both...

All that says is to delete 2VG as it's already included - there's nothing about removing 223 (DDC) with m sport pkg.

znz does not include 223 which is the VDC.

Exactly.. M Sport by itself does not include the VDC. You'll have to order that as an additional option as you did in your screenshot.

Ah. Okay. I know what you're saying now. The Canadian Online configurator will not allow you to have both M Sport + Dynamic Damper Control. You are correct in this aspect.

My order with M Sport and Dynamic Comfort Package works. Dealer had no problem ordering both.

See attached. I think the website is incorrect. I double checked with the dealer and they said it is possible to order both M Sport and Dynamic Handling Package. I was annoyed in the beginning because I thought it wasn't possible to combine both. The order is in and I have a build date sometime in Feb.

An updated response from BMW Canada... VDC is officially available on the M sport.

I tried to configure a similar BMW X3 on our website but the system would not allow me to select the M Sport Package and the Dynamic Comfort Package. After checking with our product specialist, we confirm that you can order both packages together. Our website will be modified shortly to fix this issue.

This obviously a change from when I ordered my X3 M-Sport because I have both M-Sport and VDC.

No change... there was just an error on the bmw.ca website which didn't permit both options. BMW is gonna fix the website.

I suppose the important point is you need to order both the M sport and the VDC to get em... in other words, not all M sport X3's have VDC.

You sound like the sales guy... I actually talked to him tonight.

He asked me what he could do to get me to buy now... I said, talk to my wife and promptly handed her the phone.

I explained to the sales guy that I want the car but don't need the car so I'm not in a hurry to order unless there is some promotion or something. I really am interested in the N20 engine in the X3... I actually had another sales guy tell me he heard rumors the engine would be available in the X3. The guy I plan to order from says it ain't gonna happen on the 2012 models.

Well I can't help it, it's my nature (see sign below)

Yes the X3 will come with the N20 this is confirmed but what isn't is when. I'm thinking it will be 2013 model year before this motor replace the NA I6. If the N20 is as good as the one found in the 528 then it is a gem. If the N20 is what you truly want then wait besides you already said you're not in a hurry so why rush. Also there won't be any incentives (low rates/cash back) for a while because this car is selling like donuts, they just can't make enough. I put in my order mid Dec and they are telling me it'll be March before it arrives but the dealers are willing to knock a few percent off the price (5% is about average). Whatever works for you. Good luck and keep us posted on your purchase.

The downside of that position is that the car sells like crazy and if you don't buy somebody else will, so they're unlikely to move in any dramatic fashion. I can't see a situation in which BMW will offer an X3-specific promotion anytime soon. So you may have hung tough, but you gave them a no solution position and they likely just moved on and sold somebody else a car. No problem if you really don't care. Waste of time and effort if you want the car!
