DHP Standard?
Just picked up my new 2012 X3 35i (Space Gray, Sand Beige Nevada Leather, Fineline Wave Wood Trim). Great ride so far. Hoping to take it out for a spin sans wife so I can open up the engine a bit. Impressed by how much power is available at the slightest tap of the accelerator.
Anyway, I have a question. I didn't select DHP as an option, but when I picked up my car, I noticed that I had the rocker switch with the ability to select Sport and Sport+ modes. Is DHP now standard? I double checked my order sheet and it isn't listed as an option. Has this happened to anyone else? |

Msport package? If so the rocker switch comes standard but doesn't do anything to the suspension.

All of us 2011 owners have discussed this extensively.
It was confusing. The 35i with SAP comes with the rocker switch. It will control transmission shift points, the steering but not the actual shocks unless you have DHP. |

As noted by others, the rocker switch is present, but there is no DHP, and there are no suspension changes. However there are transmission shiftpoint, 7th and 8th gear lockout, and throttle response changes that may rock your world. Be gentle until your X3 is broken in, but enjoy!

Can you take a photo of your shocks and post it? If you have DHP you should have the cylinder with the wire coming out of it like this

Thanks for all your responses. I will double check to see if the rocker switch only affects the throttle. And sorry for the duplicate post. I'm a relative newbie who didn't for this forum. On the fense about reading the X3's. Guess I should. For both. Thanks again all.

Agree with Sard, look at the shocks. One cannot tell for certain by driving it and changing the toggle switch. Others have done that and "sworn" they have suspension adjustment, when they do not.

Special rocker switch
You could also check under the rocker switch marked "Normal/Sport/Sport+". Some versions of SAP (-DHP) came with a special BMW Motion 3 Placebo Feedback Switch (M3PFS). This uses motion feedback to stimulate the cerebrum linking the frontal and parietal lobes into believing the body is experiencing stiffer suspension.

I guess I'll never know. Kinda hard to get a good view of the shocks in the city, and there's no way of knowing for certain by just toggling the switch.

It doesn't matter that you are a city. Stick you head under the car and look at the shocks. If there is a tube sticking out of the lower portion of the shock perpendicular to the shock and it has wires coming out it... Dynamic Dampers.

Yeah, it kind of matters if on one side of the car you have crazy cab drivers passing by at ridiculous speeds, regardless of traffic conditions. But more importantly, I don't care enough to get down on a filthy sidewalk or parking garage floor to see if there are wires coming out of the shocks.

Rocker switch = dynamic drive control
You can’t have variable/dynamic damper control (aka DDC and VDC) without dynamic drive control. You can’t have variable sports steering without dynamic drive control. You can however have dynamic drive control (the rocker switch) with no variable/dynamic damper control. Which is probably what you have. But you might never know….

I'm sure BMW didn't give you DDC for free if you didn't order it. The rocker switch comes with the Sport Activity Pack which you ordered.

I went into my garage, walked to the back of the car, bent over and looked under the car, and saw the DHP component/wire, stood back up.. took me as long to do as thinking.."this guy is asking for answers, but is too lazy to contribute." Didn't even have to touch the ground with any part other than my feet. It would be harder to "look for it" if it's not there though..I took my iPhone and snapped two quick pics of where you would find it, and how easily it is to see. You can do it without "dirtying yourself up" The reason I'm curious is because of all the posts where people claimed to "feel" the electronically controlled damper changes who didn't specifically pay for the DHP. I'm not sure if anyone who didn't pay extra for the DHP actually took the minute to check and share. I know people who did pay, have shared their findings.

Has nothing to do with laziness. I live in Manhattan and garage my car. When they bring my car up, I'm expected to exit rather quickly. However, since it seems it's relatively easy to take a pic of the shocks, i'll do so the next time I get my car. I thought I had to remove the wheels.
