Tweaking Premium Sound....UPDATE

This refers to a former thread on setting the equalizer on the Logic 7 Premium Sound(USA)...http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showth...ighlight=logic

Tests were run with "Surround Off".

Treble +2
Bass 0

Old Settings New Settings
100 +2 +2
200 -2 -3
500 0 +1
1000 0 -2
2000 0 0
5000 +2 +2
10000 -1 -1

Be aware that these setting are not "set in stone". Use your own ears for the final settings.

Sorry, spacing didn't come out right.

Glad this came up again. I was thinking about bumping it since the improvement in sound, especially in the midrange was really good compared to the original posted settings. I did dial back the treble setting by 1, but that was personal preference. Happy listening.

Good thread. I remember stumbling across a thread like this in the E90 forum and it made a huge difference in sound quality in my 335.

I'll try these when my X3 shows up!

I would lower the 200 to -1 or -2.

That's where a lot of the mud is hidden.

These are my latest settings. I actually have a separate sub with its own dedicated amp so I actually adjusted "100" to 7 and o man does it sound good with a good bass hitting track.

Anyone? Bueller, Ferris Bueller?

What Bass and Treble setting do you folks use?

I've tried some of the recommendations above, but am not entirely happy with the sound. Hopefully there's an audiophile with the secret sauce out there.

I see from your original post that you are using a Rat Shack SPL meter (hopefully the analog one - the digital is not as accurate).

Anyway, the Rat Shack meter is pretty inaccurate at low (bass) frequencies. Here are the corrections that you should apply to any measurement on the meter to come up with the correct levels. Ex: for 10Hz, you need to add 20.5dB to whatever measurement you see on the meter to come up with the actual value.

10Hz +20.5
12.5Hz +16.5
16Hz +11.5
20Hz +7.5
25Hz +5
31.5Hz +3
40Hz +2.5
50Hz +1.5
63Hz +1.5
80Hz +1.5
100Hz +2
125Hz +0.5
160Hz -0.5
200Hz -0.5
250Hz +0.5
315Hz -0.5
400Hz 0
500Hz -0.5
630Hz 0
800Hz 0
1KHz 0
1.25Khz 0
1.6KHz -0.5
2Khz -1.5
2.5Khz -1.5
3.15Khz -1.5
4KHz -2
5KHz -2
6.3KHz -2
8KHz -2
10Khz -1
12.5KHz +0.5
16KHz 0
20KHz +1

I just m X3 with premium sound on Saturday, so I'll be playing with this myself over the next few weeks. Initial response to the premium audio is positive. Definitely worth the money over the lousy standard system. I thought that leaving surround mode "on" sounded better (I leave the Logic 7 in surround mode on my '08 335i too), but didn't start tinkering with the EQ yet.

Huh?

Are clicks forward and backward with the equalizer measured in .5 increments?

I thought they were whole numbers? I believe that's what the others who posted here meant.

For illustration purposes it would be beneficial to whoever would like and has equalizer knowledge and a good ear or equipment to fill in the blanks:

Treble:
Bass:
Balance
F/R:
100:
200:
500:
1000:
2000:
5000:
10000:
Surround: On or Off?

The treble, bass, and numbers should be designated as 0, or a positive click forward or backward in whole numbers to be clear to all.

Thanks!

I think that those are calibration corrections for the SPL meter, not EQ settings in the X3.

Correct

If you use a Radio Shack analog SPL meter you need the apply the corrections I posted above to get an accurate measurement. The Radio Shack meters are very good for the money, but have some pretty large inaccuracies, particularly in the bass.
