"Just drive'n in the rain"....holy steam......
As the other song goes "they say it never rains in California", but let me warn you man it pours...........pulled into my parking space after 30 mile trip in the rain on Monday, shut engine off and low & behold, whiffs of steam or smoke? You tell me, comes a vaporing up from the front top of the kidneys and hood latch area...no sound or smell, opened hood, some water dropped down and sizzled towards the back, no warning lights, all systems Ok.................
Tues thru Fri everything fine and dandy no rain, no vapor.....Maybe the electric fan TSB?? |

Water on the radiator? See it frequently here where it rains more -- and in the car wash.

my 328xi would do this after parking in my garage pulling in from heavy rain on occasion. hasn't happened on the X3 yet. Just be 100% sure its just water vapors and doesn't smell like coolant.....

I have had this occur occasionally with: E90, E91, E70 and F25. First time it happened it sort of freaked me out too. I had the hood open and was checking all the hoses for leaks or loose connections, etc.
It doesn't happen often, and every time it does I hate it... but it does not appear to be a problem. What I don't like about it the most, is that it gets you used to seeing steam/vapor on occasion and if you did have a problem you might not check.

The coolant system seems to operate at around 220-226F per Lotus's tests. That would explain water steaming up if it gets onto the radiator.
