+1 It's annoying not to have BMW Office on Apple's latest offering. I hope they sort this out on the next iPhone

1. Basic 2. Music 3. Media You can see them all on the Options drop down list here http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...catalogid=4462 You must have 3. Media for 6NR. You also must have pro media on the F25 so it's strange that you don't need pro media on the F10

BMW Media snap-in adapter
Hello,
I am new to BMW's and to this forum--I reply, not as the world's greatest authority, rather by coincidence, I have a quote and web page for the media snap-in adapter and held it in me hot little hand--I await (allegedly November) a new 2012 X3 Xdrive 35i with all the tech stuff...the dealer parts department recommended the media unit as opposed to the music unit. I show part # 84 21 2 218 390 on the quote at $263.64 MSRP and $237.28 over the counter with a 10% discount. I found the unit on the web page: http://www.shopbmwusa.com/ProductSea...cessories.aspx As always, be sure you paste the whole thing--you can also see the page by going to the web page shown in the original post -- enter the part # in search--goes right to it. By way of introduction: name here is John. I am in southwest Oregon. I have just ordered a 2012 X3 XDrive 35i with all options except MSport and headlamp assist, as my wife wanted to have something left for her to do while driving. I just couldn't push the M Sport package--car looks really nice, though. best John _____ |

Welcome John! Congrats on the order. Yes, you do want the media snap-in, not the music one. That will allow you to use all the functions of 6NR.

Gentlemen,
Thank you for all those earlier precious infos. I ordered my first BMW 1 connectedDrive Pack and i'll be receiving it from Munich to Paris the 3rd October 2011 !! Needless to say that I'm knew to BMW's and to this forum. I fell down on this discussion by browsing iPhone 4 Snap-in on google. I have all the needed requirements to install this additional accessory in my new car. I want the media version so I assume it's # 84 21 2 218 390... My questions: -Do you think this fits on a BMW 1? -If yes, do they think they ship to France? -If no, do you know any retail store, website, contact within your network? Appreciating your help, Imad |

If you're buying the media adapter you must have pro nav so you don't need a y cable, a normal USB will suffice. The only difference then is signal strength.

Sounds like you have a bad connection, faulty media adapter (is it iPhone 4 or 3GS?) or the wrong type of snap-in adapter (I assume you've checked that already)

So does it work with the 4S?
All,
New to the board and BMW. Just bought a 2012 X5 diesel. I LOVE this vehicle. The only thing I don't like, as a matter of fact, is this damn cradle/adapter. $70K for a the vehicle (including $250 for the useless BMW apps) and they are really going to nickel and dime me for an adapter to make the cradle -- which takes up space and can't be removed -- and their stupid app work? Is that really the impression they want new customers to walk away with? It probably is because I foolishly took the time to email BMW about the lameness of it all. Got a form letter response. At any rate, the dealer swears the snap-in adapter for the iPhone 4 (you know, the one they want to charge $265 for) will NOT work with the 4S. This seems to me to be highly unlikely, but apparently they tried it with another customer and it didn't work. I'm thinking it could just be a faulty adapter or user error. Figured I'd consult the true experts. |

I'm picking up my X3 on Friday. I have a 4S and the snap-in adapter. I'll let you know how it works.

There are definitely members who have a 4S working with a media snap-in adapter, albeit in an X3 not an X5

I have iPhone 4S and it works well over Bluetooth. I'm not a fan of an adaptor as new technologies keep evolving pretty quickly and I keep changing phones at least twice a year. iPhone 5 when introduced may not be compatible with the iPhone 4 adapter. Android is offering great phones these days and one can't use one adapter for all the devices.

I can also confirm my iPhone 4S works perfectly (without office) on the media docking station. There is no real difference other than speed from the iPhone4. Covers, BMW App also work without a hitch.

I asked for a Media adapter from the dealer, and he sold me 84212199392. It is labelled "MEDIA" on it, the box says "MEDIA SNAP-IN ADAPTER", but it has no fan. It is dated into the dealer's stock 23/3/2012.
I have to admit to feeling a little ripped off though. I have just discovered that everything that I can do through the snap-in I can do with a plain jane white USB cable - it even shows album art. Which begs the question - what on earth is the point of the big chunk of plastic??? I have 6NF (we can't get 6NR BMW apps here) which I assume gives the smarts to fully integrate with the phone (yes? no?) and comes with the snap-in base unit, but it appears to do it all through USB as well... it all seems a little pointless! The only reason I can think of is that I am going to use a 64GB USB for music and it means that can stay in there. |
