3.0l now on BMW UK site

So it is a 4 not 6 cylinder with same combined mpg as 2.0l. Costs £37,240 and the throw in the bigger engine, the auto box and metallic paint for the extra £6000! Comments?

Correction! Combined mpg is 47.1 not the same as 2.0l which is 50.4.

And they add a satin grill and dual exhausts. And style 305 wheels.

That must be a mistake.

Note 3.0d also has run-flats as std.

BMW web says Tyre sizes 225/60 R17 99H yet brochure says 245/50 R17 for style 305! Another error? Oh and 305 style is not stated as a run flat. What is going on?

Don't trust the content on the BMW website. It's likely to be wrong. It's definitely 6 cylinders for the 3.0l but the combined mpg of 47.1 is the same as what's in the brochure I have. If I was behind the wheel the difference in fuel economy would be much more than the advertised combined difference of 3mpg - probably more like 10!

10 less mpg for more power and less agricultural engine sounds like a plan. Awaiting quote for this engine

Good point but with fuel at £1.30/litre a 10mpg difference is nearly £400/year for 12000 miles. It also costs more to tax and maintain. And I want one now not in another 6 months!

It's also not on the UK website any more. Perhaps they pulled it because the details were so hopelessly wrong

If your sums are right, as a 6000 mile driver for extra fuel & road tax that means £230 a year. That's £4.50 a week! Before insurance and depreciation. Appealing?

I forgot about insurance! That will be more and I'd get through tyres faster too I would imagine. Those sums are bulletproof mate

Road tax based on CO2 is likely to go up too although there is only 13g/km difference

I was only looking at the configurator. Still only xDrive20d on the engine choice list

And the M Sport 3.0l is a four cylinder too! Are we sure this is a mistake? My heart was set on a 6cyl. Net additional cost £3600. But if it truly is a 4cyl! Surely not. Do BMW even make a 3.0l diesel 4cyl?

Isn't it about 1 cy per 0.5l, 4cy=>4X0.5l=2l, 6=>6x0.5l=3l??

Beats me. A 2993cc "4" cylinder. There was word a while back of BMW moving from 6 to 4 cylinders to save fuel but is this a totally new engine?

The xDrive30d is 100% 6 cylinders. I'll eat my hat if it isn't

Definitely 6. Australian web page has it as a 6 as does the Australian full brochure which was released on line on Monday. Much better than the uk brochure

There is no full UK brochure available online. It's still only available in print but it has had details of the xDrive20d and the xDrive30d since last October. I gave up trying to get a PDF version.

I've no doubt it's 6 cylinder.

I'm a bit confused about the wheels.

xdrive30d = 17" Light alloy wheels - Y-spoke style 305

xdrive20d = 17" light alloy V-spoke style 304 wheel with 225/60 R17 non-runflat tyres

I have a feeling that both are non-runflats.
I have the pircelist in printed form here that I got when I visited back in November and it's just as ambiguous, i.e. doesn't say whether the 17" Y-Spoke style 305's are with run-flats or not, but judging by the option price, I think they are not.

The car configurator is now up for the 3.0d and M-Sport versions.

Although there's still a bunch of anomalies I think..

It still talks about 4 cylinder.
It says 255hp, but elsewhere it says 258hp.

There are no packages if you select either 3.0d or 3.0d M-Sport.
And the optional equipment seems to be missing some things + have some problems.
+ e.g. no Xenon's.
+ if you select Navigation-system Professional - it adds for free although the business version is still £1775. Would be nice to think free with 3.0d - but clearly not

All in all, what an amazingly poor show from BMW and their web admins!
