Aftermarket wheels X3 2011
Hello
I have now got the X3 2.0D 2011 since 2011 - a fanastic car Do currently run on org size wheels - 7x17 and 225/60 tires, but would like to change to eiether 18" or 19" Anybody who have experience with aftermarket wheels (not org. BMW wheels) and the tire pressure control? I have not figured out how this work and if there will be any influence mounting not org wheels Thanks JensM |

Hi Ibjgh
I am aware of a lot of aftermartet wheels - have found some nice already: Am however not sure if there will be any impact on this tire pressure control as I am not really sure how it works. |

So to answer you, any change of wheels is not supposed to affect the system. |

Just make sure that whatever wheels you choose accept BMW compatible TPMS sensors, and then all you have to do after the wheels are installed is reset the TPMS system on the iDrive
I have 20" wheels, 8.5" front and 9.5" rear widths

VORTEXTUNING.COM I believe e90 wheel specs are very close to F25, you can always ask the vendor before you order |

There is a general move towards this system due to malfunction of sensors inside the wheel (and I suspect because it's a cost they can easily cut due to using sensors already in the car for the same result). Drawback: you never really now the absolute pressure inside the tire, but truth be said, you just need to know if some tire is deflated... again, that's why you need to reset the system everytime you check the pressure on the tires. This is also the system that I have in my Alfa Romeo Giulietta, and the same system that I had in my previous VW Passat. If you change a tire you can see that there is only a regular valve on the wheel instead of a TPMS sensor. |

Personally, I like TPMS sensors because you have an accurate way to measure the psi of the tires (my Porsche actually shows the exact psi of each tire, which is very handy) How does velocity of a wheel translate to psi of the tire anyway?

On the other hand, may I ask why you would like to change to 18" or 19"? Aesthetics, functionality? |

Reason for changeing, is mainly aesthetic as I think the org 225/60x17 seems too tiny. From a driving and comfort point of view the 225 do a great job A question to 19" which I hope someone can answer: BMW have some org. 19" in the size 8.5" / 9.5" fitted with 245/45 and 275/40 - "smallest" in front. I have found some nice after market complete wheels and according to their configurator they fit with a 35mm insert. The size is 8.5" for all 4 and tires are 275/40x19 also for all 4. Will a 275 be too wide for the front? Thanks for advising Rgds Jens |
