Benefit of Panaromic Sunroof?
Hi there
What is the benefit of having a Panaromic Sunroof? Re-sale better? Looks cool? or What? What is the majority of X3 2011 drivers opt for (sunroof or without)? Open for discussion Cheers |

Most people opt for the sun roof, but there are a few on the boards that haven't.

The amount of light it lets in is impressive. It makes driving the car much more enjoyable. I think it's standard on the 35i now, as well.
For me it is a compromise with a convertible, which I would never own because I perceive them to be unsafe/inconvenient. Others will opt to not get one because of slightly increased weight and minimally decreased head room. On a car like this, I don't see that it makes much difference. I have also heard that these things can fail or have problems, which is why others don't opt for them. I have never had a problem with any sunroof, however. As mentioned earlier, it's particularly impressive for the people sitting in the back (kids, dogs, etc.) |

This gives you the option to get more Sun. Light, Wind, View.
Great feeling during rains and sun during cold season. Think will you take it if given free? Why? |

HI All
I objected to sun roofs in sedans originally because of the reduced headroom. Yes less of a problem in X3. I can understand why some people would want glass above their heads in sunless countries such as our pommey cousins but here in Australia with many sunny days all year and temperatures up to 45 degrees I want lots of steel and insulation above my head. Plus the fact that BMW charge about ten times the manufacturing cost of such fitments. |

As with several of the posters here my reason for getting the sunroof was the amount of light it brings into the car. We rarely actually open it. We usually only close the sunblind during the heat of the day or if the car is parked in the sun. And speaking of the sunblind - one of the big pluses the X3 has over its rivals (namely the Q5 and XC60), the blind is a solid blind unlike the fabric type on the others.

Blind is all electronic due to the size of it. Honestly makes it a nice feature but slower than the manual one lol.
Sunroof has its many benefits... many of which are mentioned. One thing that people don't think about is the resale. Most vehicles (espeically BMW) are equipped with Sunroof. Having a lack of sunroof may make a vehicle insuperior to those that have it. Not to mention its usually part of a value package with BMW that gets you more essentials such as heated steering wheel, auto dimming mirror etc..

I love the light and the air when open during the day, at night, Summer, Winter, and particularly in Autumn. I wish both panes tilted and opened.

They do, but avoiding a sunroof eliminates one low odds danger out of thousands we all face daily. If it makes you feel better, good for you.

I love sunroofs for the additional lights they bring into the interior, especially during not-so-hot days, also for ventilation when you're waiting for someone in the car with the engine off and you don't want to open the windows.
In reality, I rarely open the sunroof, but I do appreciate the extra lighting and less "confined" feeling when the blind is open. |
