OT Wife's RX lease is up.....
Going to test ML 350, Q5 and she likes my X3 so we'll go talk to the boys @ Bimmer too...
I'll place highest odds on another RX as they have some terrific rates right now..But she loves the cache' and looks of the ML too...

Well it was a busy day....We looked at the:
Evoque Q5 X3 ML350 RX350 Guess which one she liked best??? Did you guess right? X3!! Surprised me all to heck....We decided to just run the lease out on the RX rather than take them up on their pull it forward program....Plan is to order a 28i for her later this summer when the 014 is available and Lexus lease is done...Who knew?!

You certainly did have a busy day - but the glaring omission from that list is Volvo's XC60. Don't dismiss the Volvo simply because it might not have the street cred the others may have - in my opinion it ranks better than most on that list (except the X3 of course).

My wife also preferred the X3 over the competition. Our 2014 X3 is on order.

The xc60 has the same hp rating but with the 6spd auto box doesn't feel nearly as quick as the bimmer.
The ML is a competitor for the x5 no?

Smooth, powerful, safety, technology a good looker to be sure, MB cache....It was also the largest and most expensive vehicle of the group we choose to consider....
Cons: Controls are confusing and antiquated looking inside, Nav screen was too small, poorer price value, awful steering and I felt it had a choppyy ride relative to my expectations for such a well engineered and expensive vehicle.. At the end of the day (and price aside - we expected to pay more for it) the ML did not have a good value and it's few strengths did not overcome that in our estimations.

To quote her "I felt most in control driving this one" and that makes me feel safe.. Steering, chassis, braking - my words The N20 was plenty powerful for her, LOVED the TECH PACKAGE, LOVED the FREE MAINTENANCE, LOVED the HEATED STEERING WHEEL, X-Drive (we had a perfect rainy day to test cross-overs).. Nice job Bimmer on the X3....I kept my mouth shut and let her do the choosing

I agree. I edited that out of my post, as well as it pricing (fully loaded) significantly higher than the X3, as I did not want to inject my bias. It's possible the ML could have higher reliability, if my previous C300 is any indication.

We went from Rx to X3 at Christmas. Wife loves it. She even let me trade my TL for a new 335i convertible. Love the X3, but I thought he RX was expensive to repair! After reading these forums glad I have a 4 year warranty I might extend.

I just came from an XC60, whilst it is a fine car with excellent safety equipment it is not quite up to the quality of the BMW. In the states you get the T6 engine which is very sweet. It's worth testing mind you as this is just my personal opinion after having owned the two.

My next vehicle is either M4, X5 or A7 (I know, all over the map!) I had some negative equity that I threw into this X3 lease and it's serving a dual role for me in that regard right now...And it's a nice little ED driver too..Win win for me!

Once you get used to Audi's MMI and controls you won't enjoy the gadgets and controls of BMW's, not to mention the better functionality of Auto dimming mirrors int. and ext. as well as auto headlamps, just to mention a few.

Last summer we switched from an RX to an X3 35i. We liked the Lexus, but the BMW is so much more car. The RX is looking stale. There must be a replacement due soon.

The current ML350 was designed before the Daimler-Chrysler partnership failed. The ML350 and Jeep Grand Cherokee are essentially the same car. Wheelbases are identical, and all other dimensions inside and out are within a fraction. I believe they share the same instrument panel and some of the side body panels, too.

Having owned 5 Audi between and wife and myself, I cannot say I agree with any of that statement. I find the I-drive a bit easier to use than the MMI and the auto headlight and dimming mirrors are just minor details, not enough to be a decisive factor in my car buying decision.
