Tire Protection Package
I am about to pull the trigger on a 2014 X3 M-Sport. I know that it doesn't come with a spare and I have been reading that it would be a good idea to get the tire\wheel protection package. I need to know if i can buy it from another dealer just in case my dealer decides to be a jerk about it.
I was quoted 3200 for 4 years but read somewhere here that someone paid much less. I dont want to not buy the car just for this reason but I am using that as a weapon. |

Wow $3400 for 4 years, thats the highest I have heard so far. Your dealer is probably making a 400% profit from that price. If you are ordering the M-Sport, I believe it comes with 19" low profile tires, which are more prone to damage. To make matters worst, if you are one of the few unlucky one that get the crappy Good Year Eagle LS2 for OEM tires, they have a high rate of failure and tends to develop bubbles on the sidewall when you hit a large pot hole. What city do you live in? Is there a lot of potholes in your area? Those should all factor into rather you buy the tire insurance or not, but I would shop around if you do decide to buy.
A few months ago, when we bought our X3, we were offer a $1200 tire insurance policy for 5 years and we turn it down. My wife got a non-repairable flat in one of the tire, nail near the sidewall. The tire was replace at a major tire chain store for $400 and they offer us the tire insurance for all 4 tires for $40 per tire. Quite a bit cheaper but its a pro-rated insurance pay out according to tire tread depth. At $3400, you will have to get 9 or more non-repairable flats in 4 years to come out ahead Last edited by The X Men; 09-10-2013 at 03:15 PM.. |

Just for your reference, my protection package is about $2400 for 4 years and it includes:
1. Unlimited tire replacement. I have the 310 M tires so anything below the 275/35R20 tires, they will replace, not fix. 2. Unlimited Rims protection. If I dent a rim, they will replace, not fix. 3. Unlimited dent fixes. Unless it's on the edge line, any dents they will fix, but will not paint. I am sure you can find or ask for better deal from your dealership. Good luck. |

Normally, I would say hang onto your money, but from what I have read, most of the claims for the tire and rim insurance are owners from NYC and NJ. I guess that's the price one needs to pay for living in the big apple.

I think you are getting robbed. I'll be picking up an X3 M-sport in about 2 weeks and today my dealer told me that the tire/wheel protection is $1495.

just note that this cost is definitely negotiable. having just gone through the purchasing process, I was surprised when the finance lady quickly dropped the cost of the tire warranty after I said "not interested".

I paid around $1100 for my x-3 and my wife's 328. I have gone through three tires and my wifes car had 5 tires replaced. Glad we got it!

I just purchased a 2014 BMW X3 from a Mercedez Dealer and they offered me a tire and wheel protection plan for $1800 for 5 years. I live in Boston, MA.
Is it really worth it? If not, I still have an option to cancel it. |

What are your tire size? I have 19inch tires with 45side wall. I paid $1500 2 yrs ago for 5yr no deductible. I had two tires replaced due to nails which I could have had patched but didn't since I have the warranty/insurance.
If I had to do it all over again I would skip it. 45profile tire is enough for me. And I live in NY! If I have 40profile then I would get it. It doesn't cover cosmetic damage and bmw will only repair/place rim if it doesn't hold AIR!! So if the rim is bent but still holds air, you have to get it fixed on your dime! |
