I have a 2.0d with 17" non runflats on order. I am considering using something like the following (there are companies who offer a mobile service, but it looks pretty easy to put in):

This will prevent the majority of punctures for a pretty small initial outlay. I understand that the UK X3s don't have the tyre pressure sensors in the valve, so no chance of wrecking them fitting it.
