Where did you hear that the X3 had changed to a ABS speed based system?

My X3 (USA production) definitely has TPM sensors in the wheels. They are at a different frequency than the pre-2010 TPM sensors. This from a forum member who found the "old" (pre-2010) sensors would not work and had to have his winter tires removed, the new sensors switched, and the tires re-mounted.

The iDrive interface, at least at the "customer access" level does not allow turning off the TPM warning, so using wheels without functioning TPM sensors will give a "tire pressure fault" warning. It's possible that a dealer may have access to software tools that could override that, but unlikely a dealer would risk the liability of doing so if a customer requested it.
