I agree that the price is high. I paid about $1750 for each of mine and my wife's. For the X3, it may not in fact be necessary, because the tires are not as low profile as on other vehicles. For my M235, the package has already almost paid for itself in 15 months. The biggest problem is kerb rash, which I have had repaired 3 times, no questions asked. I also had one tire replaced.
One advantage is that the dealer asks no questions. Maybe the tire could have been repaired, but if insured, it is easier for them to just replace it and bill the insurer.
As for RFTs, that is what the car has. If you don't like 'em, you can spend $2000 on tires and either carry a spare or a kit or just worry all the time. Not worth it to me.
