Personally, I would ditch the mud flaps. They do nothing to protect your car. Once you put them on, you have to keep ‘em on. When you remove them – you’ll have visible marks where they were contacting the body. Plus, in the winter you’ll have more snow and ice to accumulate in your wheel well, but hey – to each his own.

On my previous cars I'd get lots of spray/sand debris against the car without the front mud guards. I wasn't sure if the configuration of the X3 would have similar results but I didn't want to risk extra rocks hitting the body. I only have 550 miles and several chips in the bumper and 1 in the windshield. I wouldn't notice it as much if I didn't clean it constantly.
