According to SCOTT, plans do indeed include a 6 cylinder diesel X3 option for the US. Of course, there's no guarantee that it will be the 35d since, as you probably noticed, there is a 30d available overseas too. And in fact the engine used for that model is actually a close match in output to the current US 35d engine used in the X5 (and outgoing 3 series).

No timeframe has been disclosed for this yet to my knowledge, but there are similar rumors of the US getting an X1 diesel (a four cylinder in that case) at its launch later this year or soon after. So, it may be that the X3 will get the diesel option at that time as well. Or maybe we'll even get it sooner, at the start of MY2013 production - who knows.
