I noticed the stop start not always kicking in on my test drive when in traffic and the BMW guy said it was because the engine hadn't been running for long and it needed time to charge the battery so wouldn't always activate when the engine was cold. Would also be affected by cold outside temperature but that's as far as my knowledge goes...
