225/55/18 also I would suggest does the trick and at 60mph the speedo should show 60mph.
The tyre I was looking at 225/60/18 would show 62mph at 60.
First thing I have to do is to confirm my msport 18" alloys will fit the X3, thereafter I will commence the great tyre search. I may opt for the 225s but onlly if significantly cheaper. My 2.0D se is on 225 treads now, cant see that a 225/55/18 would be much difference in ride, feel and safety than a 245/50/18.

I would agree with your last paragraph.
Your earlier post suggested that you were looking at 225/60/R18. These would have been 3.5% larger circumference & 2.5cm greater diameter than the BMW spec'd tyres.
You are now comparing 245/50 R18s (2143mm circomference) with 225/
55/18s (2150mm circumference). It would take a very highly refined 'calibrated eyeball' to detect a circumference difference of 7mm or 0.4%.
