Not sure I agree here.
Horsepower is up throughout the industry, but BMW is notoriously conservative in their own ratings.
In terms of 0-60 performance, every review I've read shows the BMW at or very near the top of the score.
The N20, controversial though it may be, is winning awards.
The N55 is still seen as the smoothest, most refined engine in its power delivery class.
