Angry Production halt unless taking Tech package??

Hi,

been surfing here for a few months for information gathering, testimonials, etc... on the new X3.

Ends up after test driving it I fell in love quite easily with the 35i, so signed up for it and been anxiously awaiting info on when production would start. Sadly up here in Canada it seems we don't have access to the same info as you guys down south, but still was thinking my dealer would send me something in the lines of "your car is scheduled to be built next week!"

I got an email from him alright, definitely not what I was waiting for though...

We have run into a small snag on the X3 order. There has been a halt to the
x3 production due to a part shortage as a result of the the recent disaster
in Japan. There is a certain component that is not available although they
have supply of these in the technolgy package, which for the time being BMW
is making mandatory in order to keep production moving. What this means is
we can still follow the same time pattern as we agreed to as long as you
are okay with taking the technolgy package for $2200. Are you okay with this
option being added as I am not sure I can predict and verify delivery
without this. Please let me know as soon as possible,
Thanks,
Now I'm a bit pissed... the tech package?? really? Obviously it's a very personal decision on what a person would like in their car, but BMWs tech package is very bleh (especially up here).

Still, in the last few days I've read posts of people getting their orders in production without tech packages... so I find this extremely fishy.

I'm not a very bells & whistle kind of guy, so the only package I really wanted was the new M package, and that's all I put in it.

Anyone get wind of this supposed snag/halt on production???

Thanks
