Depends what you want to do with the vehicle and what you'd be most comfortable driving. We're trading our 2014 328d Sports Wagon for a 2015 X3 28d. Love the diesel -- that's why we're getting another one. Just under 12,000 miles and getting 39.2 mpg overall (40% city, 60% highway). The Sports Wagon is a great vehicle, but it wasn't the right choice for us. We sat low, so visibility wasn't great (my wife & I are both short). Also, we hike and fish and weren't comfortable taking the 328 on some of the gravel roads in the area. The dealer let us take an X3 out for a day and we immediately felt more comfortable with the upright seating and the X3 great on all the gravel back roads. So it's whatever you like best: low, sporty, mostly on road or high, upright, and more off-road capable.
